Today, join us from 3:00pm to 5:00pm for a spatial music performance across the neighborhood of New Orleans Musicians’ Village and an interactive ancestral tribute to Council Chief Joseph Jenkins.

The Slow Drop is a new work of sound art by Angel Nevarez and Valerie Tevere in collaboration with Danny Abel, Sam Albright, Denise Bonis, Tom Chute, Sula Janet Evans, Helen Gillet, Edward Lee Jr., Thomas McDonald, Margie Perez, Troy Sawyer, Gabriel Velasco, Chip Wilson, and more. Curated by Anna Mecugni.

The program includes an interactive ancestral tribute to Council Chief Joseph Jenkins in the Black Indian tradition of New Orleans, featuring Big Chiefs Kevin Turner and Kevin Goodman who are co-curating it with Maroon Queen Reesie - Cherice Harrison-Nelson.

Join us TOMORROW, Oct. 8th from 3-5pm for The Slow Drop: Musicians’ Village.
Singer-songwriter and "surrealist archeologist" Helen Gillet (pictured) explores the intersection of acoustic and synthesized sound using a cello, her voice, and loops. Part of the eclectic musical tapestry of New Orleans since 2002, Gillet was named a 2022 rising star by DownBeat magazine.
In this one-time live event, New Orleans Musicians’ Village will be transformed into a shifting soundscape of intersecting performances.

The Slow Drop: Musicians’ Village – Saturday, Oct. 8th • 3-5pm CT
A native New Orleanian, Troy Sawyer (pictured) is a soulful trumpeter, composer, music educator, and leader of his band—Troy Sawyer and the Elementz. Sawyer is the founder of Girls Play Trumpets Too, a non-profit launching in the fall of 2022 to empower girls ages eight to nineteen to play the trumpet.

Dedication sign at the intersection of Batholomew St and N Prieur St in New Orleans Musicians’ Village, along the route of The Slow Drop spatial music performance. Musicians’ Village is a post-Katrina affordable housing initiative for musicians that acclaimed New Orleans-born musicians spearheaded in collaboration with New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity.
