REACHING, 2024

reaching is a commissioned public art installation for the city of Leawood, Kansas inspired by an olive tree, composed of 75 strands which represent the 75th anniversary of the city. Composed out of 4 inch schedule 80 aluminum pipes rolled into a unique radius. The finish is a white powder coat and the lights are a custom built fixture out of clear acrylic. The sculpture traveled in eight large pieces on a 40 foot flatbed trailer from New Orleans, LA to Leawood, KS over three trips. Once on site, it took eight days to get the structure installed with all of the lights attached.
Just a few more steps before the sculpture is complete. The foundation will get clad in local limestone and once the site gets power we will program the lights.

It has been a long road to get here. With over a hundred hours of parametric modeling in grasshopper to capture a bent 3d form in its flat shape, I’m super proud of how this came out.
