In a twist of events, Erin Fox asked, "Hey, you wanna go down to Nashville with me and play at the Commodore? ... Next week?" Of course I do! So we headed down to Nashville Songwriter's Showcase a couple weeks back to meet some folks and test the waters, so to speak. I got to share some songs I don't often play, some new some old, and was blessed to have my sister there encouraging me to share my serious silliness. The next day we enjoyed a little studio listening session with Jimmy, who also added us to the following night's Songwriter Round. :)

This coming year is going to feature some new things, some weird things, but all from the heart. I am lucky to have friends and family who encourage me to share my voice, no matter which one I'm speaking with. It's certainly fun to pop around different instruments, but I'm looking forward to being on the bass at the end of this month with Unholy Water and also, the debut of TRAUMA RESPONSE (with Erin and Katie Fox). Until then! I'm going back in my box to narrate and rehearse. 🤘🤘

Lately Tennessee has been a big part of my summer, even in my narrating!

Set in the rugged Appalachian Mountains of Northeast Tennessee, twenty-year-old Rosealee “Rosie” Clark has been raised in a world of faith, family, and healing. On Ripshin Mountain, Rosie, her Mamma, and Granny carry on the traditions of the Granny Women, gathering herbs, roots, bark, berries, and flowers to make remedies their isolated neighbors have depended upon for generations.

Dr. Oliver Hughes comes from a very different world. Born into wealth and privilege in New York, he turns away from the future his family planned and follows what he believes is God’s call to serve Roan Mountain, Tennessee. But the newly arrived doctor soon learns that medical training alone cannot prepare him for the people and traditions of Appalachia.

When Oliver and Rosie meet during a house call, sparks fly for all the wrong reasons. He has been taught to distrust mountain herbal medicine; she has little patience for a city doctor who dismisses knowledge passed down through generations. Yet as they work side by side among the sick and injured, irritation gives way to respect—and respect slowly deepens into something neither expected.

Set in 1925-1926, Rosie of Ripshin Mountain is Book Two in Sheri Bruce Wiggins’s Women of Appalachia series—a Christian historical romance rich with mountain heritage, healing traditions, danger, sacrifice, faith, and a love as enduring as the Appalachian hills.

Who are "you"? What does "identity" mean, and what happens to "you" when you stop experiencing things? This book delves into the science of consciousness - exploring neuroscience and brain studies to ask "the hard question" - why do we have experiences at all, and what happens to the person experiencing them when there isn't anything to experience?

Under anesthesia, we stop recognizing the passing of time. Unlike dreaming, there is no concept of a break in experience. Death may be similar, in that the recognition of experience ceases. This book argues that in an infinite universe, there are infinite possibilities, and if consciousness is a pattern of behavior and way of experiencing things, this pattern can be repeated - meaning "you" never stop repeating, in some form, somewhere.

If you love your philosophy with a dash of science, and are curious about concepts of "afterlife" or "immortality" - this book is for you. It is a deep dive into the possibilities of consciousness, what we know and what we don't know about how the brain works, and its relationship to how we perceive reality.

Sometimes I get nonfiction projects I'm neutral about, and then I get some eye opening insight, and I put my name on the book. This is one of them. Did you know it's expected over half the population is either autistic or ADHD? WHO THEN... are the neuro-divergent ones?! If you suspect you're not exactly a normie, and question why you do (or don't do) things a certain way... this may be of use to you.

From task paralysis resolutions to phrasing your needs in a not-needy way, I found this to be a great resource.

Today is world bee day. They need help today as many bee studies’ funding has been cut, and they’ve been on the decline. HOWEVER! You can help! Grow flowering plants, and even have a safe area for drinking water access; they get thirsty, too, and rise with the sun to start their pollen collecting journey.

Also, did you know all honey bee “collectors” are female? The male ones guard the hive. As Beekeeper Danielle from East 40 Community Gardens says, the drones “are like the frat boys” of the hive, keeping outsiders out, eating, and trying to get that figurative honey, too.

I’m working on an album inspired by the sounds of these important fuzzy buzzies. Here I’m recording the hives on site, each having a different personality. They all do hum a similar tune, tho, which changes of course depending on flight, rest, agitation… I’m looking forward to sharing this collection of vibrations with you.

If you’re interested in learning more about bees (and nature) check out the NCCC East 40 Community Gardens. Danielle installed new hives this season, even!
