See these two sleeping lumps of fur? They’d want to tell you, if they weren’t too lazy, that the dog days of summer are now upon us and they’d like to gently suggest a few things:

When the temperatures rise, one of the kindest things we can do for our dogs is leave them home where it’s cool, comfortable, and safe whenever possible. They don’t need to go on every errand with us — sometimes the best adventure for them is a nap in the air conditioning with a fresh bowl of water. 💚

If your dog does need to come along with you, please remember:
🚫 *Never* leave your dog in the car — even for “just a minute.”A car can become dangerously hot very quickly, even if it’s parked in the shade and the windows are cracked. Shade moves, temperatures climb, and dogs cannot cool themselves the way we do!!

🐾 Protect their paws.Hot asphalt, pavement, and sidewalks can burn paw pads in a matter of minutes. If the ground feels too hot for your bare hand, it’s too hot for your dog’s feet. Try walking early in the morning or later in the evening when surfaces have cooled.
💧 Keep them hydrated — but don’t let them overdo it.For a dog that is hot or has been active, offer water that is cool or room temperature rather than ice-cold water, and let them drink smaller amounts instead of gulping down a huge bowl all at once. A little at a time is easier on their system.
🌳 Seek shade.⏰ Adjust walk times.💚Pay attention to signs of overheating: heavy panting, drooling, weakness, confusion, vomiting, or slowing down.
Our dogs trust us to make the choices they can’t make for themselves. A little extra planning can keep our best friends safe all summer long!! 💚

While doing some housework, my FyreKin oracle cards called on me to set the vacuum aside for a few minutes and draw a card.
I designed this deck to do double duty. Not only is it geared toward pet readings, but for humans as well. Today I’m being told that this particular draw is for the humans out there. Go ahead and claim it if you feel it’s for you. 💚

The latest disagreement between you and that person that you often butt heads with, really stirred up a hornet’s nest of emotion this time, didn’t it? And that distance that has been slowly growing between you, now feels like a gaping chasm.
Yelling louder through the increasing disconnect isn’t getting anyone anywhere. Stop the noise. Begin again with silence. Rediscover companionship in the quiet. Sit at the beach and watch the waves. Work on a project together. Go for ice cream or whatever else you might enjoy sharing. Do it as many times as necessary for you to feel comfortable together again. Then perhaps find one single point of agreement. We’re not talking life altering. Just something simple.
Let that small beginning spark be the bridge that re-connects you.

Walk them in early morning and/or much later in the day, when the sun isn’t beating on the pavement. Or walk them in grass wherever possible! Their pads, like our skin, can burn and blister!

I was going to add this to that Smoky collage, and it completely slipped my frazzled brain. This is the piece I had written for the May 2026 edition of “Furrily Lovable”, in remembrance of my puppy wub

A Day In The Un-Life
by Tracey Andrade Berrios

He wakes up exactly where he always did.

This surprises no one. Especially not him.

Being in spirit has not improved anyone else’s timing, and the first thing he notices is that Mummy is thinking about getting up without properly acknowledging his presence. He makes his displeasure known immediately.

She cannot hear it the way she used to, but she feels it.

Sharp, insistent Smoky-energy ripples through the house. Not haunting. Corrective. He paces. He huffs. He makes sure his presence is impossible to ignore. Morning must be greeted appropriately. He did not cross realms to be disrespected.

When Mummy finally gets out of bed, he is right there. Of course he is. In life he had long since stopped going to the second-floor bedroom. He hadn’t the strength or balance for that long climb, but now….

He follows her on silent, unearthly paws, sticking closer than he had been able to. He leans into her field the way he once leaned into her leg.

Mine.

As it was in his youth, the kitchen is again his jurisdiction. He notices immediately that no one is preparing food for him, which is simply unacceptable. He throws a brief energetic tantrum…nothing dramatic, just enough to knock something over in another room, bringing all of Mummy's attention to where it should rightfully be… on him.

He would like it noted that his dislike for most foods is still of absolutely no consequence. He expects it to be properly prepared and offered. Death did not change this fact.

Midday, someone outside exists. He senses them before they can get within forty feet of the house. The property line is still his. The windows are still his. Truth be told, the entire block is his. The air itself reports to him.

He barks… not with sound, but with force. The person doesn’t hesitate but the dog they’re walking sure as heck does. The message lands. Good. Keep it moving, peasant intruders.

Mummy pauses, curious at the sudden energy shift. He presses closer.

It’s fine, Mummy. I’ve got it.

He spends the rest of the day doing what he has always done: supervising. Guarding. Correcting. Commenting… a lot. Loving his family and his home.

Sometimes Mummy feels sad. She misses his fluff, misses the conversations (arguments) that she rarely won. She misses his comforting weight on her feet, keeping her from leaving his favorite room, where he would sometimes insist that she remain for hours at a time. He wedges himself into her chest, her side, her heart space. He is not gentle about it. He has never been gentle about love. He demands she breathe. He demands she stay present.

At night, he settles where he always did…watching the house, watching her and Daddy and his nephews. Yes, even the new annoying one…watching the spaces between things. His big presence fills them easily.

He is still superior.

He is still demanding.

He still throws tantrums when things are not right.

He is still Mummy’s bestest, handsomest fluffiest boy in the whole world.

The only difference is this:

Now, he is everywhere at once.

And he is not going anywhere.

A small light tan terrier type dog with a bad right eye has been insinuating himself into my consciousness off and on this morning. I have no idea why. All I can say is he does not seem to be your typical terrier temperament wise, but rather calm and quiet.
