ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: DEBBIE WILLSON

This week’s Artist Spotlight is especially close to home.

Debbie Willson grew up just across the river from Natchez in Concordia Parish near Black River. She got her first camera when she was only seven years old, and the Louisiana landscape has been telling her stories ever since.

Debbie is known for capturing the bayous, rivers, ancient cypress trees and wild beauty of Louisiana. She has also created a style that is completely her own, including her beautiful images printed on antiqued mirrors.

Her work has been shown in New Orleans and has traveled far beyond the South—including an exhibition at the Multimedia Art Museum in Moscow, Russia.

But what we love most is that Debbie’s story and her art are rooted right here in the Miss-Lou.

The Big Muddy Inn is proud to have several pieces of Debbie Willson’s art hanging throughout the Inn. They are pieces of the landscape we know and love, and each one tells its own little story.

Want a Debbie Willson piece of your own?

Take a look through Debbie’s artist page, see more of her work, and find the piece that speaks to you!!

And when you’re at the Big Muddy Inn, take a minute to look around. You’ll find Debbie’s Louisiana hanging on our walls, too.

We’re proud to have her work here—and even prouder to call her one of our own.

SUITE SPOTLIGHT 🎶

THE MUDDY WATERS SUITE

Today we’re showing off one of our favorites.

The Muddy Waters Suite is 650 square feet of blues—and we mean that in more ways than one. We love all the different shades of blue in this room, especially mixed with the old Oriental rugs, dark wood, crystal chandelier and pieces we’ve collected over the years.

It’s comfortable, it’s a little fancy, it’s a little funky, and it feels like the Big Muddy.

And of course, we couldn’t have a Muddy Waters Suite without a little mojo. Muddy helped electrify the blues, and we like to think this room has a little electricity of its own.

If you’re coming to Natchez, don’t just book a room. Pick the room you want to remember.

Come stay in the Muddy Waters Suite and get your mojo working. 🎶

People come from all over the world to experience Natchez, Mississippi. When people of Natchez go out into the world we spread the word about what makes our little corner of Mississippi so special.

Regina Charbonneau just returned from a beautiful trip through the Mediterranean, spreading that Natchez love along the way with so many friends who are proud to call Natchez home.

Tracy and I are here in Woodstock, doing a little spreading of our own—taking the spirit of Natchez with us everywhere we go and hoping a little bit of Woodstock finds its way back home to us.

Meanwhile, back in Natchez, there is an important meeting today about something that means so much to all of us: tourism, lodging, and the future of the city we love.

Even though we may be miles away today, our hearts and our attention are right there at home. We understand just how important these conversations are—not only to those of us in hospitality, but to all of the restaurants, shops, musicians, artists, businesses, and people who make Natchez the place visitors fall in love with.

We are so honored to help in a small way spread the Natchez love in the parts of the world we visit.

August has already been a special month for us. We took a little time away to celebrate Tracy turning 60, but now we’re headed back—and there is a LOT happening at the Big Muddy Inn.

This week we’ll be meeting up with Chase in Woodstock to work out some exciting plans for what’s ahead.

Our Pilgrimage plans are coming together. Happiest Hours are coming back. The concert schedule is being worked out. And there are a few more things we’re not quite ready to tell you about yet.

Next week, the countdown begins.

We’re ready to get back to Natchez, back to the Big Muddy, and back to our people.

Stay tuned. We’ve got some announcements to make. ❤️

A special shout-out to Natchez native R. J. Lee, who will be back home celebrating the release of his 18th published work, Still in the Universe: Mother, Brother, Husband!

📚 Join R. J. for his book launch and signing Saturday, August 15, from 5–7 p.m. at the Big Muddy Inn & Blues Room. The evening will include refreshments, a little live music from R. J. himself, a talk and Q&A, and of course, book signing!

This new work includes plenty of Natchez history, photographs, and memorabilia, making it especially meaningful for our community.

Congratulations, R. J., on book #18 — and welcome home! Hope everyone will come out and help celebrate one of Natchez’s own!
