MEET THE TEAM: Melvin and Cheryl 🏁🤩

Melvin is the start to Russell Langley Racing. He has memories of riding his bike down to the County Line to watch the races and thinking how bad he wanted to race too! Getting gifted his very first race car at 16 he went to work along with a few others, they will be mentioned in a later post, and never looked back.

One day Cheryl came along and the rest was history! Cheryl has helped support Melvin in his racing endeavors for as long as they have been together. She has followed him where this road has lead them over the years, and that has been to many different tracks in many different states. To see the true love they share for one another is a blessing.

Melvin has been all over the east coast racing in all different cars and trucks over the years. He’s ran asphalt cars and trucks and skin it up on dirt for the last 25 years. Melvin has a true love for this sport and it holds a deep place in his heart. He has and continues to always be thankful that the Lord lets him get in and out the car every single time. Over the years Melvin and Cheryl have seen the Lord work in some amazing ways and know they will continue to see His hand at work! Racing is more than just a sport for Melvin, it’s family. And RLR can definitely agree that racing takes friends and makes them family, someone you can count on to show up for you even if they aren’t blood.

We are so thankful for Melvin and the dream that 16 year old him had! We wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for that dream.

Last time for the season! 🏁

Melvin Langley
#28 Quality Preowned Super Stock 4cylinder
Melvin pill drew a 28 rolling out 7th for qualifying finishing with a 18.551 for his fastest lap.
His finish in qualifying placed him starting 16th in his feature. Avoiding a LOT of lap traffic, Melvin finished 6th gaining 10 positions! And wouldn’t you know it, Cricket finished a race! It may have taken a lot of time and effort in the shop from our team but we finally got the car to do what we knew it could do!

Cole Langley
#28 Tidewater Energy Pure Stock 4cylinder
Cole pill drew a 55 rolling out 9th for qualifying finishing with a 19.585 for his fastest lap.
His finish in qualifying placed him starting 8th for his feature. The car seemed promising on lap one, but going into turn 1 and 2 on lap 2 Cole got tangled up in some traffic and that was the end of the night for Cole. Not what we were hoping for but it happens, that’s racing.

This season has been full of so many different results for our drivers and team but this remained the same, the Lord truly looked out for us! From safety, to intervening even when we couldn’t see it at first, to the small victories and the big ones the Lord has seen us through and for that we are forever grateful. We thank our sponsors who helped us along the way and for the people who came out to the track and supported us there all year long. And we also would like to thank the County Line for providing us a place to go racing every other weekend.
Although race season may be over we aren’t going anywhere! We have some fun things planned for the off season so be sure to follow along with us!

Last one for the season! 🏁

Tomorrow night is the last race of the season for our drives, so if you haven’t made plans to come see them in action come show your support tomorrow night at the County Line!

They are busy loading up the cars to take them out to practice tonight and get everything dialed up for one of the biggest races of the season!

Cole is one of our full time drivers and a familiar face to RLR! Cole definitely keeps the team on their toes and keeps things interesting at the track. We appreciate Cole and all he does on and off the track not just for his race family but for anyone he can!

Here in the South, we know a thing or two about hard work, lending a helping hand, and looking out for your neighbors. Whether you're turning wrenches at the shop, working the farm, serving our community, caring for patients, teaching our kids, protecting our families, running a small business, or simply getting up every morning and doing whatever needs to be done — we appreciate you!

Our communities are built by hardworking folks who don't mind getting their hands dirty, staying late, showing up when they're needed, and doing things the right way. That's something worth celebrating. 🇺🇸

And above all, we thank God for the strength to keep moving forward, the blessings He continues to give us, and the people He places in our lives along the way. We know that every lap, every victory, every setback, and every opportunity is made better when we put God first. 🙏

Well that was… something

Melvin Langley
#28 Quality Preowned Super Stock 4 Cylinder
Melvin pill drew a 31 placing him starting 2nd in the heat race. He had a strong start in the heat race but around he went in turn 4 and ran hot after coming to a stop, ending his heat race early.
His finish in the heat placed him starting 14th in the main event. A strong go in the feature and got up to a top 10. He held his position there for a while but Cricket did what she does and ran hot again ending his night with 5 laps to go. Melvin coming in early made him fall back 2 positions finishing 12th.
Some work to do in the shop this week on Cricket to figure out how to get her to perform like the team knows she can. But overall not a bad night for Melvin and Cricket.

Cole Langley
#29 Tidewater Energy Pure Stock 4 Cylinder
Cole had an interesting night in store for him. With the rain that came through at the last race he didn’t run his feature so he ran a heat race and 2 features Saturday night.
Cole pill drew a 72 placing him starting 6th in the heat race. Cole went into the heat race knowing he didn’t want to mess anything up with him having to run 2 main events Saturday night. However that quickly changed and he ended up sitting on the dirt berm (pic included below). Which was the end of the heat race for him and placed him finishing 9th.
For his first feature he started 3rd and it was looking super promising for a top 5 finish, but then the car overheated and he had to come in early finishing that feature 13th.
For his second feature he started 17th and all was going well for him until we heard the announcer say “that’s a caution in a caution” and Cole was sitting sideways on the other dirt berm. Another end to the night for Cole finishing his last feature of the night 14th.
Not how we were hoping to finish the night but at the end of the day things could’ve been a lot worse so we thank the Lord for safety and replacement parts.

A shoutout to the team for all their hard work on both Melvin and Cole’s cars! They were on it from the time Melvin came in with his motor running hot and Cole with a broken rack. We also had some help from one of our competitors and we appreciate them stepping in to help us get back going!

A moment for some “thank you’s” because after Saturday night they are definitely due!
Thank you County Line for providing a place for us to race locally, thank you to all our help Saturday night, thank you to all our sponsors, and thank you Jesus for answered prayers! We’ll see you next time at The Line.

Saturday night recap!

Melvin Langley
#29 Quality Preowned Supper Stock 4 Cylinder
Melvin pill drew a 2 placing him starting first in his qualifying laps. His fastest lap was a 17.637.
His lap time in qualifying placed him starting 5th in his feature. Started out as a really good run and was looking like a great night for Melvin and Buster. But a little bump up causing some sheet metal damage ended the night for Buster and Melvin. The cosmetic damage to the car caused it to run hot and brought Melvin on in for the night placing 16th.

Cole Langley
#28 Quality Preowned Supper Stock 4 Cylinder
Cole pill drew a 62 placing him starting 9th in qualifying. With his fastest lap time being a 18.536.
His lap time in qualifying placed him starting 14th in the feature. Cole and Cricket went flag to flag Saturday night, and this is the first time Cricket has finished a race this season! Cole held his own and finished 14th.

Now you might be thinking “Cole’s name again? Must be a typo.” And to that we say nope, not a typo. Cole ran 2 classes Saturday night!
Cole pill drew a 87 placing him starting 16th in qualifying. With his fastest lap time being a 18.455.
His lap time in qualifying placed him starting 3rd in the feature. What was looking like a promising night for Cole ended with some pretty heavy rain showers. So we loaded up and came on home.

Some people might read this post and think “what a bad night for those drivers.” However we could say that too but we would be wrong to do so. We look at Saturday night and see God’s hand in all of it! Melvin might not have finished the race but how blessed are we that there was just minor damage?Cole didn’t get to run his feature but what did that protect him from? What a blessing it is to say that our drivers made it home safe!
We would like to thank our team here at RLR for sticking it out through the heat and then the pouring rain! Y’all are so appreciated! We also like to thank our sponsors for their contributions and all their help so far this season! And a big thank you to the County Line Raceway for always putting on a show! Finally the biggest thank you to our Lord and Savior for guiding every step Saturday and for every blessing He gives that we know we don’t deserve.

Happy Father’s Day from Russell Langley Racing!🏁

We’d like to take a moment to wish all the dads a happy Father’s Day! From the ones who have their children here with them, the ones that are soon to be fathers, the ones who didn’t get to meet their child because heaven needed them more, and the ones who stepped up to the plate even when they didn’t have too. Today we celebrate all the dads out there who care so deeply for their families and do things behind the scenes that sometimes go unnoticed. Dads we see you and we thank you for all you do! We also would like to send our condolences to the kids that have lost their dad and this day is particularly hard for them. ❤️
