Here’s Griffin McMahon performing his take on “Let’s All Help The Cowboys” here at the studio using super 8mm film. Cowboy Jack Clement wrote this song and Waylon Jennings cut it on his seminal record “Dreaming My Dreams” in 1975. Griffin felt it would be apt to pay tribute to the great Cowboy Jack Clement in his old home studio with this recording.

Studio Owner Bob Clement is an avid super 8mm user and has extensive experience in lighting and filming through his many years of work in the television industry. Bob and Studio Engineer Cameron Davidson shoot, process and scan the film all in house. If you’re interested in filming a project with us, shoot us a message! We’d love to work with you.

We had the honor of hosting a lunch for David Ferguson and his old buddies at our studio the other day. These fellas are some of the pillars of old Nashville - songwriters, pickers, producers and poets. David Ferguson, or “Ferg” as we call him, started off as Cowboy Jack’s right hand man and sound engineer here back in the 1980’s. He went on to produce and engineer records for countless legends, such as , , , , and , among many others. Ferg famously sound engineered for Johnny Cash on his Grammy Award winning American Recordings produced by in the 1990’s and early 2000’s, which included Cash’s hauntingly iconic cover of “Hurt.” The creative legacy that Cowboy Jack started back in the early 70’s still continues here to this day.

Come celebrate the legacy and career of Jim Rooney with the last appearance of the legendary Rooney’s Irregulars on Wednesday, October 4th at 3rd & Lindsley! Jim is no stranger to the studio here, having worked with Cowboy Jack, Nanci Griffith, John Prine, Iris DeMent, Townes Van Zandt and countless others in our studio over the years.

Jim came of age in the late 50’s / early 60’s folk revival in Boston and New York City and has been a massive pillar in the Americana scene ever since. Rooney today splits his time between Nashville and Vermont. We’re honored to be a part of his musical story here at Clement House and hope you’ll join us in celebrating his storied career at 3rd & Lindsley on October 4th!

About Rooney’s Irregulars:

“This loose confederation of musicians is a country/folk supergroup who gather to play at the Station Inn and/or Third and Lindsley on the occasional occasions when Mr. Rooney returns to Nashville. One thing they have in common is that they are some of the group of artists and session players associated with the legendary Cowboy Jack Clement and the incredibly successful crew of producers and engineers who grew up under his tutelage, including Rooney, Allen Reynolds, Garth Fundis, Mark Howard, David Ferguson, and others.”

John Prine’s recent single release “Love At The Five & Dime” was recorded here at Clement House with Kelsey Waldon and produced by John’s longtime producer Jim Rooney in early 2020. This was a contribution to the tribute record “More Than A Whisper: Celebrating The Music Of Nanci Griffith” arriving September 22 via Rounder Records. The record features tributes to Nanci’s most beloved songs by the likes of , , , , , , , , , , , , and . All proceeds of the record will benefit Nashville’s Cumberland Heights, a non-profit treatment facility offering “hope and healing to those affected by alcohol and drug addiction.”

John Prine was no stranger to our studio. John and Cowboy Jack used to hang, pick tunes and record all the time back in the day here at the studio. John loved being back at the studio so much that he booked a week to record his next album here, slated for May 2020. It breaks our hearts that John never made it to those sessions, as he passed away in April 2020. We were honored that John came back to record this stellar track with the brilliant Kelsey Waldon. Give this beauty of a track a listen today in memory of the great John Prine! Much love to the Prine family.
