One of the most meaningful things I received after my sister died was a friend who sent me mail. It was intentional and thoughtful. I’d love to help you help your person feel seen.

I’ve been working on this since mid September. And by “working” I mean every few weeks I get enough energy to paint because of how much grief comes with it for this piece. Some days I suffocate in the grief. Other days I push it so far back to a corner of my brain but I always feel it in my hips. In my shoulders. Rattling in my skull. Not nearly finished but thought I’d share cuz it’s been a while. I have found that people share their ideas of how you should feel in your grief, and even though they’re well-meaning, sometimes it dismisses the horror of losing your sister to su***de. It is easy for people to say “you can’t blame yourself” when they weren’t on the receiving end of the phone call. I miss you, Reid, and I can’t believe this is real life. 7 months is unbelievable. I would trade my life so you could have yours back. We miss you.
