arting with 15 lbs of clay, this piece was thrown from start to finish on the wheel, reaching a final height of 23¼ inches. Every pull, every adjustment, and every decision shaped the final form. Thanks for watching the full process!

How to throw and trim a vase on the pottery wheel 🏺

In this video, I’m showing the full process — from centering the clay and pulling the walls to shaping the vase and trimming a clean, defined foot.

One of the biggest things I’ve learned in pottery is that every step affects the next one. Good centering helps with even walls, controlled shaping creates a stronger form, and careful trimming can completely transform the final piece.

A few tips:
🏺 Leave enough clay at the bottom for trimming
🏺 Create the volume before refining the neck
🏺 Let the piece reach leather-hard before trimming
🏺 Remove clay gradually
🏺 Use the foot to visually balance the final form
