Fabric, Thread, and Stitches

Fabric, Thread, and Stitches 've been working with fabric and thread since I was a little girl. Join me on this wonderful ride! In 2020, my husband and I moved to South Carolina.

My grandmother taught me to cross stitch and I haven't stopped creating art with Fabric, Thread, and Stitches. I have come full circle back to my love of art, quilting, sewing, embroidery, and mixed media collage. As a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC, I worked in the Design Industry and enjoyed every minute. I had a wonderful mentor, Stan Herman who shared his design experti

se and love of fashion with me. While I worked in the fashion Industry, I also kept my hands in quilting and taught sewing and quilting in a lovely little store in Sayville, NY. After my children were born, I shifted into a career in education. I spent my tenure as an Elementary School Teacher, a Reading Specialist, and a Principal, an Adjunct Professor, and ultimately I earned my Doctorate in Literacy Studies. The move provided me with a new home, a new sewing room, and time on my hands. My days were quickly filled and much of that time I spent sewing. I joined the Grand Strand Quilt Guild and explored wonderful quilt and fabric stores. Accent Sewing became one of my favorite quilt shops. The people are wonderful, the classes are fun, and that's where I bought my first Bernina Sewing Machine. Fast forward 3 years and I wanted to teach quilting again. I was delighted to be accepted into The Studio 180 Certified Instructor Training. Last August, I became a Studio 180 CI. It was such a great experience and I am so proud to join the ranks of such talented Studio 180 Certified Instructors. I love teaching quilters and I love sharing the magic of Deb Tucker's tools!

Good Afternoon Quilting Fans- Today is the day for the fabric pull for June’s Blockbuster # 32, named Vanishing Point. Before I get into all of the goodness in this block let me include the link : https://bit.ly/BlockBuster32_VanishingPoint If you would like to make it, please share below and tag your photo too.

When I first read this page on Vanishing Point, I thought I need a fabric that goes from bigger to smaller print. Then I thought, no, maybe a neat ombre. So, when I went to my stash, I found this blue ombre fabric with a pattern that starts small and gets bigger. Yay!! Then for my second fabric I chose a very plain fabric that really helps the star fabric shine. I hope it works out like it does in my imagination. We shall see on June 18th, for the big reveal.

As you can see in the photo, this block uses the Tucker Trimmer and the Split Rects. Wow, there is also a First Choice Ruler in this picture. How did that happen? I suppose since a First Choice Rulers have been actively used in everything I have made lately, the ruler felt like it needed to join this photo shoot too. Thank goodness his cousins didn’t show up too. There are five of them now. They are great for adding a ¼ inch seam line or trimming a precise seam allowance or simply cutting a straight line, but they still can't clean the kitchen.

Be sure to check out what my fellow Certified Instructors create with this block. It may look simple, but I bet they make it extraordinary.

Vanishing Point: BlockBuster #32
Week One: Fabric Pull

I am choosing fabrics from my stash and the “clearance bin”. I have decided to go with different shades of purple with a white background. I may look a little deeper into my stash and see if I can come up with a couple more purple prints that would add interest to a small quilt. It is hard to tell how many prints I might be able to find in the deepest part of my stash.

More to come next week when I post the sample units. I am looking forward to how this block will come together with the two sizes of half square triangles and the Split Rects units.

Enjoy!
Diane

It's week 1 of the Deb Tucker's Studio 180 Design CI Monthly Block Challenge. This month we're working with BlockBuster #32 Vanishing Point. This one is pretty cool because of the forced perspective between the Split Rects units and the different sizes of half square triangles. I'm going to be changing mine up slightly.

My fabrics are a combination of Aurora and Bubbles, Curves and Corners from Studio 180 for Lumin Fabrics.

My fellow CIs have some fun fabrics to work with. Make sure you stop by their pages to see what they've pulled.

You can make your own version of Vanishing Point. Download it for free here:

Week 2 of the Deb Tucker's Studio 180 Design Monthly Block Challenge is a sneak peek! I'm not giving much away this week, but I have decided to significantly change up BlockBuster #31 Delft Mill. I'll be staying true to the idea of this block, but I'm not even using the same tools! You'll have to come back next week to see what changes I made.

I'm excited to see what my fellow CIs are working on. Make sure you stop by their pages and check out how their blocks are coming along.
