Our founder, Calvin Gilmore, spoke with WPDE about Dolly Parton’s lasting impact on Myrtle Beach, his role in creating live entertainment on the Grand Strand in its early days, and the legacy created by two neighboring theaters that helped shape our community into the entertainment destination it is today.

We’re grateful to have shared a piece of Myrtle Beach history with someone whose influence reached far beyond the stage.

Forty years ago, live theater was still an experiment in Myrtle Beach. Today, it is a defining part of the Grand Strand experience.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dolly Parton—a true American legend whose unmistakable voice, brilliant songwriting and extraordinary presence made her one of the most beloved entertainers of all time. Her remarkable talent was matched by the kindness, honesty and generosity she demonstrated throughout her life.
