New to our rotation this quarter is Savage's Ale House in downtown Muncie. Find one of our 21+ boards there along with a wall of local information. Notice boards are such curious spaces, this one takes some effort to post in because you have to get the blunt pins into the sheetrock. We may need to take sandpaper to sharpen the point next time.

April is poetry month here in Muncie, Indiana, USA. Local poets are spicing up the boards of the 21+ spaces in town with our Anon poems. Anon is a voice from one of multiple Muncie poets hidden behind anonymity in order to share whatever they want with their community without kick back, be it memory or fantasy, acceptable or forbidden or just straight/bent up word p**n, we (poets) like the idea of having everyone get some, even if it’s just mental. When you come across these poems do you think the voice is male or female, gay or straight, or simply fluid? Does it speak to you? Does it matter who said it? What does it evoke in you? Does it help you see yourself more clearly? A partner?

Almost made it to April and as we have some new locations this quarter, we've started posting already! Here is Lylanne Musselman 's new poem for the boards which leans back into the music of her youth and considering the concerns of our time. Is love all we need? You can find this poem for April at The Cup in University Town. This walkable coffee shop has one of the best outdoor seating areas in Muncie for these milder days as well as food and the requisite drinks. There is even a drive thru for the determined.

It's also a hot spot for poetry and hosts The Cuplets Poetry Open Mic every fourth Sunday at 5pm. Here is the Facebook group:

Our final poet shout out this quarter is for Jennifer Criss. Jennifer has called Muncie home since 2017, though her connection to the city spans nearly her entire life. Her (abridged) Thank Yous poem which has been circulating is a smorgasbord of the ways in which people can make someone else's day with the smallest act of kindness. She recently recited this poem at a Quarterly Poetry Night which is fitting as her poem is now Heorot Pub and Draught House. Writing poetry since 2005, Jennifer values the practice as a creative outlet alongside her day job as a writer. She loves Muncie for all it offers and for the warmth that distinguishes it from other cities in Indiana.
Two more days until the new poems drop. Heorot will become one of the Adult Only boards. We will begin sharing what that means in the coming days.

Our penultimate poet of this quarter is Eric Brotheridge. Eric is the senior minister at Hazelwood Christian Church which is located at the east end of the village. It was fitting then, that his poem, "Petal Me", began its Muncie Poetry Board Project journey at Deena’s Coffee House just a few blocks away from Hazelwood. Eric enjoys reading and writing poetry. His poems have appeared in Indiana University’s Canvas: Creative Arts Magazine and in Ryder. He has a self-published book of poems titled “One Desire.”
You can find "Petal Me" at The Downtown Farm Stand through the end of the month.

Thomas Chester, local writer, musician, and professor, began this quarter with his poem in Heorot Pub and Draught House and is now in Twin Archer Brewpub . Locals have likely heard of his band TomKat Brothers aka The Frito Pact. Last Halloween they played Halloween at Heorot. Tom has been known to throw in some vocals to his poetry recitation for Quarterly Poetry Night which he co-hosts with Debra Dragoo.

In January local poet, Rachel Andrews - Poetry was on the board in The Downtown Farm Stand. She is a Muncie resident since 2023, relocating most recently from Portland, Indiana, previously from many places. Rachel has been reciting and studying other people’s poems for most of her life and writing poetry of her own since March 2025. She enjoys sharing her love of words at the Quarterly Poetry Night at Heorot Pub and Draught House and has an ep version of her first poetry collection on Spotify (link in comments). She wrote the poem shared on the boards, "Resting", early on in her writing journey to describe the act of sharing the trauma of suppressed memories with friends in order to fold in levity and growth instead of fear and stagnation. The poem suggests that the process of healing, whilst an individual endeavor, is a venture of time, ritual and community, like sourdough. The poem is currently in Haul’n Oats.
And yes! Your eyes do not deceive you! The Downtown Farm Stand sells wine!

George Wolfe is professor emeritus and former director of the Ball State University Peace Center. He is an award-winning poet and has published in the Polk Street Review, Spitball Magazine, the Indianapolis Star, Last Stanza Poetry Journal, and on prominent websites including Voices of Humanity, Sojourner, and Progressive Christianity. His poem this quarter, "Appeal of the Great Spirit" was inspired by Mounds State Park just west of Muncie in Madison County. His poem began the quarter in Haul’n Oats and is currently in The Caffeinery . Haul’n Oats recently moved the Poetry Board across their space to a door by some of their fantastic local merch. We will get a snap of that when the new poems go up in April.
