Her journey began when most 17-year-olds are excited about graduating high school, applying for college, and planning their futures, Unfortunately, that was not in
Gods plans. We met Gissell, in December of 2016, when she was placed in our home. Jesus gave us an immediate love for her. It was because of that love our lives would be turned upside down. By December of 2017, Gissell would be diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare childhood cancer. Our lives began to transition from the mission field of Belize Central America to the halls of St Jude’s children’s Research hospital in Memphis TN. It’s hasn't been easy watching someone you love to go through sickness. But when you see hundreds of children daily fighting to see tomorrow it brings a different meaning to life. We have been at St Jude’s off and on since January 2018. This our fourth time here started in April 2023. Each time it takes my breath away. It never gets easier. Some days it’s overwhelming. I pray, read, listen to music and paint. Art has been a great escape for hospital stays…I’m thankful my sister challenged me years ago to begin to do something I had a deep love for. We, thank the Lord every day for St Jude's and for our medical team. They have become our friends and family. Without them and our strong faith in Jesus it would have been impossible.
