Our ASK Auction is LIVE on EBay.
I want to share a bit about it. It was a long process getting accepted as a PayPal Charity, and getting our info onto EBay.
Now that we are all set up, there are some guidelines we have to follow, but we are listing donated art and art supplies almost daily.
We are listing as fast as EBay will let us. They only allow so many per day. Each item listed is going to be up for bid for 10 days.
So please keep checking back.
We were about half way through, but folks keep donating more art for the auction. What a Blessing this is going to be for the teachers and kids in our valley. Thank you so much for your contributions Skagit Artists Members, and thank you to our donors for supporting us. We could not do this without all of you.

Artist in the Spotlight this week: Sheila Saxon

Sheila creates one-of-a-kind “Felted Fantasies” fiber art by hand, using 100% merino wool or 100% baby alpaca. The purses, hats, and fingerless gloves are knitted and felted and then needle felted. Needle felt art provides the artist the ability to add detail and depth to create a “life-like” image. Plus, the fleece lined mittens are sewn together from recycled felted wool and cashmere sweaters. Go to our website skagitartists.com to find out more about Sheila.

This weeks artists in the spotlight: Greg Dugan
"As a kid I discovered artists such as Ralph McQuirre, Joe Johnson, and Marc Davis, who all inspired me to pick up a pencil and start drawing. With a little direction and encouragement from a father who was a talented artist himself, I took my first art class when I was thirteen years old, and have been drawing and painting ever since.

Today my focus is on creating my own artwork and sharing my knowledge with those who want to learn to draw and paint.

One of our members has sold her house and is looking to have some of her studio furniture, including sturdy cutting table, A nice looking bookshelf and stereo equipment that another artist could use while she looking for a new house (could take a year?). She will probably want them back later. She could pay a small fee for the storage if need be. PM Mechel Belk for details if you think you can help. Thank you

Introducing another member Artist in the Spotlight: Birgit LaFace.
" As long as I can remember I have enjoyed drawing and painting. When I was a child, I used to draw cartoon figures and give them to all of my friends. In school, I would sign up for any art class offered.
My husband and I retired and moved to beautiful Anacortes, WA. I working with pen & ink, watercolor, Chinese brush painting, tole painting, and acrylics.
My subject matter is mostly taken from nature. I love spending time outdoors whether it’s digging in my garden or hiking the trails in our forest lands. My goal is to be able to express my love for nature in my paintings.
To learn more about Birgit, go to our website at skagitartists.com

Artists in the Spotlight this week include the creative duo of Lori and Joel Soderberg. This collaborative husband and wife team specialize in creating unique, fused and kiln-formed glass artwork in their studio. Their work is influenced by the scenic Puget Sound as well as the landscapes and vistas they have experienced while traveling extensively across the globe.

They started out creating pottery in their studio back in 1994, slowly transitioning into lamp-worked glass beads. This eventually led to blown glass and finally to fused glass art. While their current focus is now mostly on fused and kiln-formed glass, they bring elements of all their experiences together into singular, expressive pieces.
“Life is too short to NOT be surrounded by beautiful colors, patterns and shapes.”
To find out more about these two, please go to our website at skagitartists.com

Pacific Northwest Artisan Market Place Berry Barn Summer Show has been canceled.
With the Covid numbers going up, and no sign of phase 3 in the near future, it did not remain feasible to rent an empty barn while we all wait for phase three.
We fully support their decision, and we look forward to participating with them in the future.

Meet Robert Gigliotti, one of our artists in the spotlight this week.
The goal of most of the art Robert does points to the fact that “All Is One.” This means that beyond being interconnected we are all literally One. Many of the great spiritual traditions, such as Buddhism, have been teaching this for thousands of years. This can be shown with quantum physics as well using the particle/wave phenomenon. To read more about Robert please go to www.skagitartists.com

Meet Andy Friedlander, one of our Artist in the Spotlight for this week.
Andy choses to do some pre-planning with the intent to realize ‘the plan’ but more often than not the plan becomes the starting off point for works that may bear little resemblance to his initial intent. In comparison, block printing is a technical and exacting process – carving the block, selecting paper and working with the press. To read more about Andy, please go to www.skagitartists.com

Meet Cynthia Richardson, one of this weeks Member in the Spotlight. Gathering inspiration from the beauty of the Pacific Northwest and from her travels, she begins with a general concept, then allows the painting to evolve as she works. The feeling and mood of a scene is expressed through light and color. Her task is to bring it to life so that the viewer can enjoy it too. To read more about Cynthia go to www.skagitartists.com

Meet Sarah Dalton, Artist in this weeks spotlight. "My art is, literally, all over the place as you can see from the self-portrait inspired by the isolation COVID-19 has brought on. I have used this slowed-down, simpler time to explore practices which move me from the left to the right side of my brain. I have started drawing daily and keeping multiple sketch books. Both have expanded my supplies, techniques, willingness to say yes to whatever artistic notion comes along. These paintings are a sample of what I have done during this pandemic. They have been inspired by small pieces of cut up “rejected” paintings (an exercise or practice used to move your brain).
I also have been dedicating more time to my website. More sections are now current. Please visit www.simplyimagesbysarah.com, particularly the Painting/Mixed Media gallery."

Thank you, Skagit Artists, for the informative talk by Andy Porter at the Padilla Bay Interpretive Center! I wish I could have stayed longer to meet more of you. Much appreciation for such a well planned event.
Myself and a friend have both bore children, then lost a considerable amount of weight. We would love to find a body-positive photographer who sees our loose skin as the elegant and beautiful monument to our journey that it is. I had envisioned a simple, studio setting, but my friend has a forested, natural venue available that she would like to utilize. Please let me know if there is anyone interested so we can talk.
