It’s OK to not feel OK during a pandemic.

This is tough.

People have lost loved ones. People are fighting for their lives, their livelihoods and their homes. It can be a lot to take in, and it feels like it just keeps coming. Changes in our feelings, thoughts and behaviors are normal, not a result of weakness or a sign we’re doing anything wrong.

➡️ If you’re experiencing stress because of COVID-19, you can call Washington Listens at 833-681-0211 for support services.
➡️If you’re in crisis and need help right now, call 866-427-4747 or text HOME to 741741 to connect with support services through Crisis Connections.
➡️The National Suicide Prevention Hotline is also available to provide confidential crisis counseling at 1-800-237-8255.

It’s okay to need help, and helping others access support services is something we can all do to take care of one another.

The World Is Experiencing Mass Trauma from COVID-19: What You Can Do — Healthline

Enduring emotional distress and fear, such as that created by COVID-19, can cause trauma in children and adults. Symptoms of trauma can manifest differently in children than in adults. You 2.0: Empathy Gym : Hidden Brain

Some people are good at putting themselves in another person's shoes. Others may struggle to relate. But psychologist Jamil Zaki argues that empathy isn't a fixed trait. This week, in our final installment of You 2.0, we revisit a favorite episode about how to exercise our empathy muscles.

Connie shared this with me:

"The only reason we don't open our hearts and minds to other people is that they trigger confusion in us that we don't feel brave enough or sane enough to deal with. To the degree that we look clearly and compassionately at ourselves we feel confident and fearless about looking into someone else's eyes."

Holistic wellbeing

Unfortunately, as predicted, the cases of Covid 19 are on the rise.

Covid is an equalizer; it doesn't discriminate, its single intention is to cause sickness; and, in many cases, death. It is more important than ever, that we work with One Mind and One Heart to ensure the wellbeing of every person.

As the number of Covid 19 cases increase, it is especially critical that we care for ourselves in a holistic manner. We must bear in mind that when we commit to our own wellbeing; we also demonstrate our compassion and care for others.

Please stay safe; you are loved and cherished.

When It Comes To Screens, Kids Need A Guide — Not A Disciplinarian

Some parents think the best way to manage a child's screen time is to set hard limits. But those rules are particularly difficult to keep during a pandemic, when screens are a lifeline for all of us. So what should the rules be? Sonia Livingstone and Alicia Blum-Ross, coauthors of Parenting For A Di...

Self-Care During COVID-19

Self care is important, as well as reaching out to those in our circle to check in and offer support.

Children, particularly young children, often need an adult to “co-regulate” them because the part of the brain responsible for emotion regulation is so poorly developed in childhood.
.
We as parents have to put the oxygen masks on ourselves first. If we are successful at regulating our own emotions, more often than not, our children follow suit:)
