Delta blues legend BOOKER WHITE (aka Bukka White) may just be the coolest cat in town. Herb Wise took this iconic photo of him in 1974. With his huge voice and thick, penetrating rhythmic style on the National guitar and piano, White had a presence like no other. In his colorful past, he had played baseball in the Negro Leagues, was a Golden Gloves boxer, and did time at Parchman Farm. When John Fahey recorded him, upon his rediscovery, Booker White called his improvisations Sky Songs, because, "I just pull them out of the sky."

Another fantastic photo from Herb Wise's book, "People You'd Like To Know," which was a wonderful gift from our buddy Glenn Elvig.
