June is looking GOOD in Montgomery & beyond. ✨

From jazz at EJI and ballet on the riverfront to art exhibitions, book club conversations, live music, and line dancing, there is no shortage of culture this month.

A reminder that culture isn’t just something you travel for. Sometimes it’s right here in your own city.

Which event are you adding to your calendar?

🎷 Jazz on Juneteenth with EJI
🩰 Stars on the Riverfront by Alabama Dance Theatre
🎨 The Black Experience: Southern Identity
📚 Very Beautiful Book Club: Nappily Ever After
🎤 MC Lightfoot

Some museums hold artifacts.
Others hold deep truth.

Today for International Museum Day, I’m highlighting the Mothers of Gynecology Museum and Mothers of Gynecology Monument here in Montgomery.

This space honors the enslaved Black women whose bodies were used to build the foundation of modern gynecology. Women whose names and stories were too often erased from history.

I first visited last year, and seeing how much the museum has grown since then moved me deeply. It is powerful, haunting, educational, and necessary.

If you are ever in Montgomery, make time for this experience.

Leave with the names.
Leave with the history.
Leave different than you came.

Proud to witness Montgomery stepping into spaces that celebrate Black creativity and culture on the road to ESSENCE Festival. and both killed it.!!!
