The stats show that a lot of Black women are starting their own businesses right now. I want to be in community with all of you so we can share information, wisdom gleaned, and help each other navigate some of these challenges. If we're going through the creative effort to build something new, then let's build something new.

One thing I enjoy about building Baby Yams, is that at this stage, I'm personally preparing each quilt.

Every order gets packaged by me, along with a note. It’s a small thing, but I hope it expresses how grateful I am that you’ve chosen to join the 🤎

I take Baby Yams mission seriously. Myself? Not nearly as much... because where did I roll off to at the end?? 😂

The new baby quilt collection is officially live on baby-yams.com. Which colorway is your favorite?

The new Baby Yams website is live!

We just released 10 new limited edition quilt colorways, and I can’t wait for you to see them. Every quilt is made in limited quantities, so once they’re gone, they’re gone.

This moment is special, so I shared my thoughts in a new Yam House Diaries entry about what I hope you feel when you go to baby-yams.com. Visit us and let me know what speaks to you.

Tomorrow our newest Baby Yams baby quilt collection goes live, along with a brand new website at baby-yams.com. When you visit us, I hope you feel seen.

Every quilt that leaves these shelves carries hope with it. It's also an investment in the Black and Indigenous midwives and doulas helping families receive the care they deserve.

Thank you for being here. Together, we'll weave a better future.

See you tomorrow 🤎

I was invited to share my thoughts with Mediaplanet for their Maternal Health campaign, distributed within USA TODAY and a more in-depth version online.

I was able to use my story to talk about why listening to Black mothers must be an integral part of the future of maternal health care. As you all now know, these conversations are deeply personal, because families having access to care, respect, and support is life or death.

I hope you’ll take a moment to read the feature and join Baby Yams in weaving together a better future for our families.

Baby Yams was born out of my search for answers after my own birth experience.

When I became pregnant with my youngest son, I found an incredible Black midwife and, for the first time, experienced what pregnancy should feel like: being cared for, being listened to, and having choices.

That’s what I want more families to know. There are solutions. There are people doing this work every day. There is another way.

If you want to be part of that conversation and learn more about the people and practices helping families thrive, join us at baby-yams.com and get on the email list. Let’s make the solutions go viral.

06/09/2026

And by the way, why are people still acting like these stories are isolated incidents? I've been doing this work for 7 years, and every time I share my experience, multiple people come up to me afterward to share theirs. Just look at some of the comments in my last post. How many more stories do we need to hear?

What doesn’t go viral are the solutions. Less time needs to be spent debating people's experiences, and more spent actually helping and lifting up the ones who are doing that work.

06/08/2026

I don’t usually make videos like this, but after watching a piece of my birth story get picked up online and turned into clickbait, I felt the need to say something.

I’ve been sharing my story for years. Not because I enjoy talking about one of the hardest experiences of my life, but because I want people to know that solutions exist.

If you’re a professional, and you’re using someone else’s story for content, do your homework. We’re not telling our stories so you can debate them. We’re sharing them because families need support, solutions, and better care.

So here’s a few thoughts. Part II tomorrow
