The forecast called for a drier Saturday morning, but the rain had other plans!

A little drizzle didn’t dampen the fun: the field had an incredible day of sport. Hounds left from the Kennels fixture and covered more than 10 miles. A lovely morning out at Potomac Hunt!

Rides begin: 10:00 a.m.

This division goes first so faster riders have a clear course. Please register by 10:00 a.m.
• Optimum Time over High Fences
• Optimum Time over Low Fences -- Adult and Junior Divisions
• Optimum Time over the Flat -- Adult and Junior Divisions

Gather your friends, saddle up, and enjoy a beautiful ride through Potomac Hunt country! Whether you are looking for a fast ride over fences or a relaxed day on the trail, our hunter pace is a fun opportunity to get outside the ring and explore with your horse.

Part of the Maryland Hunter Pace Circuit, our marked courses are approximately 2–4 miles long and cover varied terrain, including fields, hills, creeks, and other natural obstacles. Riders compete in teams of up to four, aiming for either the fastest time or the optimum time established for their division.

New to hunter paces? Here are a few helpful tips:

🍀 No advance entry is needed - just show up! Riders may arrive and register anytime between 9:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

🍀 Planning to ride more than one course or walk the entire route? Please arrive well before registration closes so you have plenty of time.

🍀 Bring your horse’s current Coggins information. All adult riders must sign a waiver, and a parent or guardian must sign for junior riders.

🍀 Fast Time over High Fences riders go first. After that, all divisions run concurrently. Let the starter know if your team plans to ride particularly fast or slow so teams can be spaced safely.

All classes are open to the public - you do not need to be a member of Potomac Hunt or any hunt club to participate. Traditional hunt attire is always admired, but it is not required.

Helmets and a signed waiver are required for all riders. Come ride with us and enjoy a great day in Potomac Hunt country!

A monumental day for Potomac Hunt! Today we returned to the “O’Connell” fixture for the first time in more than a decade, and we couldn’t be more grateful to be back.

Across the country, hunts are losing territory as farmland is developed, open spaces disappear, and properties change hands. Returning to country we haven’t hunted in so many years is truly worth celebrating!

Our heartfelt thanks to Tom and Melane Hoffmann, our masters, and Tony Walker for their efforts to make this return possible, and especially to Maureen O’Connell and the neighbors and landowners along Conoy Road who so enthusiastically welcomed us back after our long hiatus.

Days like today remind us how fortunate we are to hunt in Montgomery County’s Agricultural Reserve, and - once again - how much we owe to the landowners who share their land with us.

✨ Come Hilltop with The Potomac Hunt! ✨

Have you always wanted to try foxhunting, but the thought of galloping, jumping, or keeping up with a big group at speed feels a little daunting? We’d love to welcome you to our Third Flight, affectionately known as the “Hilltoppers!”

Hilltopping is a great to experience the tradition and excitement of the hunt at a slower pace, a smaller group, and without jumping. Whether new to foxchasing, introducing a green horse or young rider to the sport, or simply looking for a more low-key way to join us, it is a wonderful place to start!

We currently host a third field during our weekends hunts. Upcoming dates hosting a third field (subject to weather changes) are:

- Saturday, October 3rd
- Saturday, October 10th
- Sunday, October 18th
- Saturday, October 24th
- Saturday, October 31st

A little rain wasn’t going to keep us from celebrating our landowners! Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday for Potomac Hunt’s Annual Landowners’ Party— over 175 attendees!

Without our landowners’ generosity in allowing us to ride across their land, we simply would not have our sport! We are so grateful for their trust, hospitality, and support. This gathering is one small way to say thank you for all they make possible.

A huge thank-you to: Lisa Arrowsmith for organizing the party, with tremendous help from Mary Siegfried, Casey Hilton, and Jo Meszoly, and to the MANY members and volunteers who brought food and helped set up and break down. It takes a lot of hands to pull these events together, and we appreciate every one of you!

Enjoy these photos from the celebration, and join us in thanking the landowners who make our days in the field possible! 🍂

Views from the field on a beautiful Saturday morning!

As we prepare for our much anticipated annual Landowners Party tomorrow, we take a moment to celebrate the landowners, park and farm managers who make the ability to enjoy our beautiful countryside possible.

We loved being part of Poolesville Day on Saturday, September 19th! Poolesville Day is a wonderful opportunity to come together and celebrate the people and traditions that make this community special.

For Potomac Hunt, being there is a chance to share a little of our local equestrian tradition and connect with the community we’re proud to call home. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth to chat, ask questions, and meet our hounds, say hi to our friendly horses and riders - who were very happy to accept all the extra attention!

We’re grateful to the organizers, volunteers, and fellow participants who make Poolesville Day possible, and to our members who helped represent the hunt. It was a pleasure to spend the day with so many familiar faces and new friends.
