Montclair Shakespeare Series

Montclair Shakespeare Series The Montclair Shakespeare Series presents concert, site specific stagings of
Shakespeare's work in historical venues throughout the summer in Montclair.

The Montclair Shakespeare Series began as a series of site-specific concert readings and loose stagings of Shakespeare's work, open to the public and free of charge. It has evolved to embrace the principles of the Elizabethan original staging practices (and an evolving interpretation of what these principles can mean for the 21st century). Readings feature a stellar professionals from both NYC an

d the Montclair area, and function under Actor's Equity Association's staged reading guidelines. Productions feature New Jersey-based performers. The Series is ongoing and features live acoustic music. This is to be a celebration of Shakespeare's work for the cultural community of Montclair, which has always had an appreciation for the arts but currently has little professional theatre available. In this relaxed, "no-frills" concert reading style, plays are brought to new, spontaneous life.

Seeking the food he eats,
And pleas'd with what he gets,
Come hither, come hither, come hither.
Here shall he see No enemy
But winter and rough weather..."

'As You Like It' features more songs than any other play in the canon, and so we are seeking a very talented musician or band who work together to bring them to life. Any genre, traditional or not. We would love to use Montclair-area based musicians if possible, but are open to NYC as well. If you have any leads, contact us here or at [email protected]!
