I want to thank everyone who's supported my log critters over the years. After nearly 12 years of carving, I'm making some changes. I'll be producing far fewer pieces this year. My focus is shifting to jumbo custom critters and learning the computer code I need for my other business. It's time to choose the direction I want for the next 15 to 20 years. The huge 2” bear logo/branding iron arrived today and is now on the back of the first few sitting bear prototypes and jumbo bears! It is pretty cool to see in person.

On a side note: There are so many different things going on lately, and it’s hard to keep track, including keeping track of the 8 different size bark-on log moose, with 16 pieces each size, debarked log moose 8x16, along with 4 different size bark-on bears with 14 pieces and 4 size of debarked bears, 14 parts each, as well. It all adds up to around 480 pieces of wood, 770 screws, many bits of all kinds, power tools, chainsaws, and so much more….anyway, I thought I would throw that all out there for you on thoughtful Thursday. 🙂

The Creation of the chainsawed Maine Cedar Log Moose

In 2014 (after a few years of making white birch reindeer seasonally), someone had asked if I could create a wooden moose. I decided to see what I could do and gave it a try. I fired up my chainsaw and carved/fabricated the first one. The antlers were held on by screws and “L” brackets, the moose was extremely top heavy and not very rugged. It didn’t even have eyes or a mouth on it. It was very primitive, but people still loved it. I continued to chainsaw cedar log moose for years. Many blocks/shims of wood were handed out with the first edition moose. Eyes were added soon after the first one. Mouths weren’t an option on them until around late 2017. After carving hundreds of moose since then, they have evolved into more rugged, stable, detailed critters with hand carved/whittled pieces. In the past they were sold under my founding business - Pine Tree Trail’s Custom Creations LLC. until a new division was created. In 2019, Maine Cedar Log Moose Company LLC was founded and a logo was created for the moose and trademarked. Each moose made is now branded with a “Maine Cedar Log Moose Co.” logo. All moose are chainsawed with a vegetable oil based bar & chain oil for safer processing/handling. Our company is continuing to grow and we’re hoping to add a line of MCLMC products and apparel soon. We offer the traditional style with the bark on moose and the premium style: de-barked, textured and stained/sealed moose which is more resistant to the elements.......
