Dr. Trina Harlow - Educator and Artist I commuted out of state, driving from my home in Texas to Kansas and then to Arkansas, to work as university faculty for 8 years.

Global Education Influencer | Art Educator | Kansas State University | Univ of Central Arkansas | University of North Texas | Prosper & Van Alstyne ISD | Former NAEA Natl Board of Directors | Artist | Juror In 2024, I retired after 30 years in K-12 art education - 21 years as an art teacher (theatre, journalism, and some other content areas as well, both part time and full time) AND 10 years as university art education faculty. In 2022-23, I worked as both middle school art teacher and evening university graduate art education faculty so that I could return full time to my home in Texas. I also taught university fiber art and painting studio courses, conducted research that was published into a book and full length documentary film, planned and directed many university events, and taught educators across the United States and world. I also served on the National Art Education Association national board of directors as the higher education director for four years. I founded an organization called Online Art Teachers (K-12) during the pandemic to help art education survive the sudden and swift move to hybrid and remote education. I speak to organizations and schools across the United States, lead workshops both here in the U.S. and internationally, and am greatly enjoying a creative spree in retirement. I am spending much time in my studio painting and tending to fiber arts, as well as teaching workshops.

The Art Club of McKinney is seeking sponsors for our January 2027 workshop with The Turquoise Iris - Dionne Woods. Dionne is a social media sensation in the art world. A powerhouse in how to utilize social media for business purposes and an amazing artist. Back in March of this year, Judy Womack and I set out on a mission to start the Van Alstyne Arts Commission. We developed a three-year timeline. We are at least 6 months ahead of schedule. We have put together an impressive Board of Directors of people from a wide variety of professions. And, we celebrated after a meeting this afternoon. We now have our first physical home for the Commission. And it is a beauty! We cannot wait to share this great news! More to announce very soon, and for sure by Oct. 20th!

The Texoma Fiber Arts Guild is now in its third year and we meet in Van Alstyne. All details for our Oct. 13th gathering are on the event graphic below. We have about 25 very dedicated members! We are doing a two-month weaving project and starting it at our meeting next week. This will be our first ever long-term project. And we are pretty excited about it! We'd love you to join us. Loved having my whole family come by McKinney Art Gallery this past Saturday to see my new work and to see the gallery! We enjoyed Oktoberfest together. They planned this fun day for my 65th birthday! Polka music and dancing, two-stepping in the street, Bratwurst, carnival, and family!
