Buffalo Fuzz

Buffalo Fuzz Toothy grit, hard lines, and heavy riffs – Buffalo Fuzz is a two-piece heavy blues band from Minneapolis, MN, USA.

Jared Zachary started writing the heavy blues songs that would become the Buffalo Fuzz self-titled debut album in 2014. The guitarist joined forces with fellow Minneapolis musician Jake Allan to create their unique, earth-shattering sound – perhaps the heaviest, most full-sounding two-piece that has ever existed. They finished and independently released their debut album in September 2016, which a

chieved critical and commercial success. The duo embarked on some regional tours in the months that followed, most notably, their SXSW 2017 tour. Soon, they found themselves opening for touring veterans like Radio Moscow and Amplified Heat.

“I said I needed love, I said I needed life — I need a token from some measure of the divine.” By early 2018, Buffalo Fuzz had written their second album to dig deeper into the themes presented in their debut. Most of the 11 new songs were composed for the
purpose of catalyzing the unbound energy from their live shows. These songs also introduce Jake Allan's backing vocals, which create hauntingly beautiful harmonies. In May of 2018, the band entered Pearl Recording Studio to track their sophomore album to the very same Studer tape machine used to track Nirvana’s In Utero. Sadly, this album was the duo’s final work together. In June of 2018, just a month after recording Volume II and the music video for "I'm On Fire", drummer Jake Allan died at the age of 24. The world stopped and the album sat on the shelf for months before singer Jared Zachary could return and finalize the mixes for the songs. The album is finally set for release June 5th 2020.

8 years ago to the day. It's a miracle that it even happened.

Our first tour ever -- Spring of 2017. The morning we were set to leave, I woke up barely able to speak, let alone sing. I was able to get into the doctor right when the clinic opened. She told me I had mild pneumonia, and that I should rest in bed for at least a few days. Armed with antibiotics and a neti pot, we hit the road anyway.

Fast forward to day 2: Livewire Lounge, Chicago. Setting up for sound check, the engineer, Spenser, asked if we wanted him to record our set. We agreed, unsure of my vocal abilities. That recording from March 10th 2017 is now available on all streaming platforms. Please give it a listen, and feel that early spark of energy.
