On Saturday, President Trump looked straight into the camera and said the words millions of Americans have been waiting years to hear.

In a video posted to Truth Social on October 3, he called on Congress to pass legislation imposing mandatory minimum prison sentences for anyone convicted of defrauding Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security. Under his proposal, probation would no longer be an option — "If you steal from the American people, you will go to prison, and for a long period of time."

The sentence would grow with the amount stolen, and a second conviction would double it.

He didn't stop with the fraudsters. Trump said state and local politicians who know about fraud, have the power to stop it, and do nothing should be personally liable for every taxpayer dollar lost. "Crooked and corrupt politicians who willfully turn a blind eye to fraud" would finally face real consequences, he said.

To be clear: this is a proposal, not a law. No bill text has been released yet — Congress has to pass it. But the direction is unmistakable: prison as a predictable consequence, not a slap on the wrist after the money is gone.

While America argues about AI, Denmark just did something nobody else on Earth has done.

Back in June 2025, the Danish government proposed amending its copyright law to give every citizen ownership of their own face, voice, and body. Not metaphorically — legally.

Under the plan, no one could create or share a realistic AI imitation of you without your explicit consent. The protection would last 50 years after your death. Satire and parody are exempt.

The bill was introduced in Denmark's parliament in December 2025 with broad cross-party support, and it's expected to take effect in July 2026.

Why does this matter?

Because the deepfake era is already here. Scammers clone voices to rob grandparents.

Fake videos of public figures spread by the millions. In one 2024 study, researchers reported 50 n**e deepfakes to a major platform two ways — as copyright violations and as privacy violations.

The copyright complaints got action. The privacy ones got nothing. Denmark's insight is brutally practical: platforms fear copyright law, so make your face copyrighted.

Scientific American's editors put it bluntly: when anyone can forge reality, a society that can't tell what's real can't govern itself.

President Trump renewed the pledge in a video posted Saturday: "If Republicans win the House of Representatives and the Senate, I'm going to give all adult citizens in the United States of America $5,000."

He said the money would come from "massive amounts of money through tariffs" and record economic success.

He first made the promise September 9 at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas, comparing it to a company paying dividends to shareholders. Vice President Vance later suggested the payments would come from tariff revenue and wouldn't go to wealthy Americans.

Trump pointed to precedent: the $1,776 payments to members of the military — "just like 1776" — which he says already went out. "Everybody got their money," he said. "I did it, and I'd do it again."

The Supreme Court just handed the White House its third win on the same fight. On Tuesday, the justices let the Trump administration resume deporting migrants to countries other than their own — so-called third-country deportations — while the legal battle plays out.

The court paused a Boston federal judge's ruling that the policy is unlawful, and said it will hear full arguments in December. The three liberal justices dissented.

Here's the scale: more than 25,000 migrants have already been deported to at least 29 countries under the policy, most to Mexico, with others sent to South Sudan, Uganda, Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, and the Central African Republic. On Wednesday, Burundi became the latest country to say it would accept deportees.

The administration calls it "an essential tool" to remove people — including, it says, some of the worst criminal offenders — whose home countries refuse to take them back. Critics, including two dozen UN human rights experts, warn of beatings, disappearances, and people sent to countries they've never set foot in.

They told us American manufacturing was dead. They told us the future was apps, algorithms, and office parks — that the blast furnace belonged in a museum next to the typewriter.

Yesterday, in the Oval Office, the president announced the largest steel plant in American history is coming to Iowa. Fifteen billion dollars from Mesabi Metallics. Six thousand construction jobs. Seventeen hundred and fifty permanent jobs when the furnaces fire up.

Steel production beginning in 2030, in Lee County — a stretch of southeast Iowa along the Mississippi River that the governor herself calls one of the most depressed regions of the state, a county of 32,000 people that has lost nearly a tenth of its population since 2010.

The timing is not subtle. Thirty-six days before the midterms, with all four of Iowa's House seats in toss-up races and the Senate seat up for grabs, the president stood in the Oval Office flanked by the very Republican candidates fighting for their political lives — and promised he'd be coming to Iowa to campaign for them.

The critics say it's a mirage: production doesn't start until 2030, the tariffs that supposedly made it possible have driven up construction prices, and voters need cheaper groceries today, not steel in four years.

The supporters say this is exactly how you rebuild a country — you pour the foundation first.
