You found the painting. You had it framed. You hung it in exactly the right spot.

And then you turned on the overhead light — and something was lost.

The right light changes everything. It's the difference between a painting on a wall and a painting that comes alive — that holds the room, draws you in, and reveals details you didn't know were there.

Situ Lighting is what I recommend to collectors I work with. Engineered specifically for fine art, it is unobtrusive, adjustable, and remarkably effective. This is one of the most affordable upgrades you can make to a collection.

I carry them at Gallery 366. Come in and see what a difference the right light makes — or reach out and let's talk about your space.

"Storm over Florence" by Daniel Graves doesn't end with the storm.

Inspired by the luminous power of J. M. W. Turner, Daniel spent months layering color upon color — not to capture darkness, but to find what lives on the other side of it. The light that breaks through. The stillness that follows. The feeling that something vast and beautiful is still, against all odds, possible.

JNK Art Partners represents Daniel Graves, and showcases his work in Gallery 366. "Storm over Florence" is on display and available now — reach out and let's talk about bringing it home.

If you don't yet know the work of Steven Assael, let us introduce you.

Steven is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished figurative painters of his generation — a New York-born artist who began taking classes at MoMA at the age of four and never looked back. His work hangs in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, among others.

What makes Steven singular is his absolute commitment to painting from life. No photographs. No shortcuts. Just artist, model, and the slow, revelatory process of truly seeing another human being.

The result is portraiture that feels less like observation and more like encounter — psychologically penetrating, technically breathtaking, and quietly unforgettable.

JNK Art Partners represents and showcases a selection of works by Steven Assael in Gallery 366. If you've ever wanted to live with a painting that stops you every time you walk past it, we'd love to have that conversation.

📩 Reach out directly — placing fine art is what we do.

ICAA Chicago-Midwest's MN subcommittee hosted our July sketching event at Stillwater's Historic Courthouse (and Jailhouse).

Attendees enjoyed hearing a bit more about the building's history from the onsite tour guide (thanks Jack!), followed by sketching around the premises.

On this humid 95° Saturday, we appreciated talking, laughing, and drawing under the shade of the trees, the slight breeze rising up from the river, and the air-conditioning inside!

After sharing and discussing our sketches, a group headed down to The Freight House for continued conversation.

Our next local sketching event will take place at The Charles H. Burwell House in Minnetonka on the last Saturday in August. Link to register is in the bio.

A buttery light from the low winter sun moves gently around this pocket of open water below the flowage at the D.D. Kennedy Mill Site in Polk County, Wisconsin.

I love how the deep snow has softened the cattail mounds and cushioned the hard-edged construction of the dam. Painted en plein air and finished in the studio, I sought, throughout, to hold close the sound of open water, a sound that is very nourishing in the deep mid-winter. ~M

A long-time patron visited us in Gallery 366 over the "Art-Attack" weekend and decided to bring "Winter Sun" home. Much love and appreciation to them for their decades of continued support.

One of my greatest joys is bringing a selection of paintings into a couple's home, being there when one speaks to the moments...the dance...between them — and finding just the right place for it together. Grateful for every moment like this one.
