You're not dreaming...The Theater of Public Policy is BACK after 4 long years!

We have a full season of intriguing topics and SUPER smart guests lined up, kicking off with a timely talk about the economy with MPR and Marketplace economics contributor Chris Farrell and economist Louis Johnston. See Gross Domestic Punchlines on June 16th from 7-8:30pm in the room where it all began: Bryant Lake Bowl & Theater🎳

What is The Theater of Public Policy (T2P2), you ask?
🎙️Shows open with a lively conversation with a newsmaker or policy wonk.
🎭That conversation inspires a team of Minnesota’s most talented improvisers, who create entirely spontaneous sketches based on the interview.
🙋‍♀️The expert guest then answers questions from the audience.
😂The show wraps with one last round of improv from the cast.

It’s a one-of-a-kind mix of learning and laughter — and each show only happens once.

What do healthcare workers, church leaders, and undergraduate students all have in common? Last week, they all learned and laughed with us through the lens of !

The week’s workshops and keynotes used improv tools to teach applicable skills like getting comfortable outside of your comfort zone, being a better listener and how to avoid burnout in tough jobs.

An important thing to know about Danger Boat events: we believe people learn and remember things better if they’re laughing and having a good time. Audiences this week learned and remembered a lot. 😄

If you want to combine thoughtful conversation with high-energy engagement at your next event, we would love to hear from you! Head to our website to learn more and to contact us about working together ➡️ www.dangerboat.net/contact

Thank you to Minnesota Hospice and Palliative Care, the Minnesota Department of Health, the Synod of Lakes and Prairies of the Presbyterian Church, and the University of St. Thomas for inviting us to be part of your events. Let’s do it all again next week! ;)

🩺 Applied improv for healthcare professionals - Tane Danger featured on Mayo Clinic's "Health Matters" podcast

---

“Wouldn’t you like it if you knew that your healthcare provider was as trained as possible in being a good listener?”

🎤 On the most recent edition of Mayo Clinic’s "Health Matters" podcast, Danger Boat co-founder Tane Danger talks about using improv to teach healthcare professionals how to think on their feet, collaborate with team members, and really listen to their patients.

In the episode, Tane takes podcast host Kristen Meinzer through specific exercises he uses in his workshops to get people thinking differently. They also discuss the real-life impacts this work has had on:
🎓 students at Mayo Clinic Medical School,
🧠 caretakers for people with memory diagnoses,
🩺 and healthcare workers providing care for unhoused folks.

Plus, Tane gives a brief history lesson to explain why using improv exercises to encourage healthy communication isn’t such a novel concept, after all (hint: Jane Addams would have been great on “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”).

Danger Boat recently hired three new employees to help us with our admin operations and we'll be introducing them to you over the next week.

Casey Baker, our newest Production Manager, was originally hired last year as the Audio Tech for our Sketches of Minnesota tour with the Minnesota Humanities Center. When we put out the application for the PM role, he immediately applied and we knew that he would be a natural fit.

In addition to his role bringing Sketches of Minnesota to life, Casey will also take on the portfolio of our public programming, including shows and workshops. So if you see amazing events coming from us, know that Casey likely had a hand in them.

Please help us in welcoming Casey to the team. His experience at SiriusXM will be invaluable to us when we launch our first satellite later this year.

Danger Boat recently hired three new employees to help us with our admin operations and we'll be introducing them to you over the next week.

Next up is Clay Smith, our new Marketing Manager, who will assist with all forms of storytelling and outbound communications for the organization. That means handling our website, social media channels, our email list, and developing marketing collateral for sales and hired projects.

Does that mean Clay was forced to write their own announcement post? No, we would never be so cruel. But future communications may come from them clacking away at the keys.

So please join us in welcoming Clay to the team and we look forward to them sharing all the exciting events and projects we've been dreaming up.

Danger Boat recently hired three new employees to help us with our admin operations and we'll be introducing them to you over the next week.

First, Jessica Winingham is our new Administrative Assistant, primarily working with co-founder Tane Danger, but also helping with general operations of our organization. Jessica is new to Minnesota, joining us from the 'Show Me State', so if you have a favorite local bookstore, they'd love to hear about it.

If you want to connect about getting some meeting time on the calendar, talk to Jessica. Do you have something to share with our cast so that they're informed and prepared for an event? Jessica. Have a question about teaching theater to students and managing school stage productions...not our work, but Jessica will have the answers.

Jessica has been with us for almost a month and she's been wonderful. We hope that you get the chance to work with her.
