FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Milwaukee, WI) — The inaugural Indian Summer Festival Inc. (ISF) Spring Powwow and Native Art Market Fundraiser, held March 28–29 at the Waukesha Expo Center, was both a tremendous success and a powerful learning experience. Attendance exceeded expectations, with lines stretching into the parking lot and the venue quickly reaching capacity. This overwhelming response reaffirmed what we already knew — the community deeply values authentic Indigenous experiences.
The event celebrated Indigenous culture through art, music, dance, and food, and was embraced with enthusiasm and respect.
Organizers also identified important lessons and opportunities for growth. “We learned where the pressure points are and how we can improve,” noted Apache Danforth, ISF Vice- President. “It’s clear that bringing back the full Indian Summer Festival will require strategic action planning, expanded community partnerships, and increased fundraising efforts — but the passion and support are undeniable”, she said.
Indian Summer Festival, Inc. remains fully committed to its mission of honoring Native heritage, strengthening cultural understanding, and celebrating Indigenous resilience and creativity.
ISF President Lloyd Ninham announced that the larger, full Indian Summer Festival is set to return in Fall of 2027.
“Indian Summer Festival leadership is actively planning for a full return in 2027, with a focus on authentic Indigenous programming, community partnerships, long-term growth, and financial sustainability,” said Ninham. Organizers view 2026 as a critical rebuilding year, laying the foundation for future success. Throughout the year, ISF will host a series of fundraisers and community events — including a new funding event, Indian Summer Festival, Inc.’s Fall Fundraiser — to build the resources and partnerships necessary for a strong, sustainable return.
“We’re deeply grateful to our sponsors, volunteers, artists, singers, dancers, and food vendors,” Ninham emphasized. “This movement belongs to all of us, and everyone will remain part of the journey as we elevate Indian Summer Festival into the most community-centered celebration of Indigenous culture."
