Over the past few years, my time volunteering with WAMI has been an amazing way to connect with and give back to the Wisconsin music community. But without a doubt, the most rewarding part of it has been starting and running the SEED Scholarship program alongside my friend Chris Carpenter.
We created this scholarship to help young musicians get access to the lessons, instruments, and opportunities they need to grow—and Zaida Carpenter is one of the best success stories we’ve had so far.
She received a SEED Scholarship last spring, and because of it, she was able to continue her organ lessons—lessons that ultimately led her to apply for a prestigious organ-building apprenticeship at St. John’s University in Minnesota. Only one new apprentice is accepted each year, and she got the spot! On top of that, she’s now teaching young piano and organ students, passing on her love of music to the next generation.
I hope you’ll take a moment to watch her story, and if you know a young musician in grades 7–12 who could use financial help with lessons, instrument rentals, or camp fees, encourage them to apply at WAMI.org/seed-scholarship.
Also, this scholarship is 100% funded by donations from individuals and businesses across Wisconsin. If you’d like to support the next generation of musicians, you can donate at WAMI.org/donations/scholarship.
Helping young musicians like Zaida is why we started this program. I can’t wait to see where her journey takes her next! 🎶✨
