“When I had my first encounter with flow arts, I was taken with awe. The continually fluid and articulated movements filled me with amazement and curiosity. My first thoughts were, “Wow, how beautiful! I would like to try but I'm afraid I won't be good enough. Am I as creative as they are? Is it worth it?” I could not stand and wonder, I had to get my hands on a flow toy.
Fortunately, the flow community is always ready to accept any who are interested in the art, and soon enough a borrowed pair of buugengs fell into my hands, the one flow toy I had a steady eye on!
In the beginning of my journey, I didn’t believe I was talented or creative enough to spin buugeng, yet every new trick I learned was building more and more confidence in myself. Through continuously progressing and reaching beyond what I thought I was capable of with buugeng (and other flow toys like rope dart and dragon staff) I became a whole new person, someone who believes in themselves and loves who they are on the inside and out. Because of this art I understand now that self-doubt and other pernicious self-beliefs are what prevented me from achieving my goals.
The art of flow dance and the community which surrounds it has taught me compassion, patience, and most importantly for me, playfulness and Love ^.^ ❤. I value play because the act of playing facilitates a flow state in most people. Being in a flow state creates new neural pathways in the brain which helps to support a healthy mind, one that is capable of taking on the adversities of this life. I am continually grateful for the wonderful souls I meet and the lessons each flow toy offers me. I am so excited to dance with you all and share a fantastic experience at Lunar Flow. July 24th cannot come any faster!”
