🎤 Meet the Band: Hattie Whitehead

At the heart of the Hejira: Celebrating Joni Mitchell band is the extraordinary Hattie Whitehead.

With remarkable pitch accuracy, poise, and sensitivity, Hattie brings Joni Mitchell’s music to life in a way that feels both authentic and deeply personal. Her guitar work—featuring the distinctive open tunings that defined Mitchell’s sound—adds another layer of richness and realism to the performance.

Raised in a musical family, Hattie is the daughter of acclaimed saxophonist Tim Whitehead, and has built her own path as a singer-songwriter. In 2016, she won the Emerging Talent competition at Glastonbury Festival, and her original music has since reached hundreds of thousands of listeners worldwide.

Last week's performance by Tom Rush and Brendan Cleary at Big Bear Lodge at the Andres Institute of Art was an evening to remember.

Tom Rush needs no introduction to anyone who loves American folk music — he is simply an icon, and his decades of influence on the genre are felt every time he takes the stage. He still delivers a masterful show, and the opportunity to spend a little time with him afterward was a genuine honor. He is every bit as warm, gracious and kind as his reputation suggests.

The revelation of the evening was Brendan Cleary. A rising star with a powerful, captivating voice and a command of the guitar that marks him as a true virtuoso — a naturally gifted musician who has put in the work to make that gift extraordinary. Like Tom, he carries himself with real warmth and humility offstage. Remember that name. You will be hearing it for a long time.

🎸 Meet the Hejira: Celebrating Joni Mitchell Band: Pete Oxley

Guitarist Pete Oxley brings a lifetime of musical depth and artistry to the stage.

Raised in a family of classical musicians, Pete discovered jazz in his late teens — a turning point that led him to study at Leeds College of Music before moving to Paris, where he began performing extensively and shaping his career as a guitarist, composer, and bandleader.

With 16 critically acclaimed albums to his name, and collaborations including the renowned Oxley–Meier Guitar Project, Pete’s work has taken him across the UK and Europe. His compositions have even earned a place in the European Real Book — a distinction held by only a select group of British composers.

Now, he brings that experience and musicianship to Hejira: Celebrating Joni Mitchell.
