What a special evening.

Last night we had the privilege of joining Hejira: Celebrating Joni Mitchell as they performed at a private event for the sponsors and contributors of the Syracuse Jazz Fest at the beautiful Beak & Skiff Apple Orchards. As the tour management and backline team supporting Hejira's U.S. tour, it's a privilege to be part of bringing these performances to life. Between the breathtaking views and such a warm, welcoming crowd, it was a night we will always remember.

A heartfelt thank you to Frank Malfitano for inviting us and for everything he does to make the Syracuse Jazz Fest such an incredible event year after year. His passion and dedication have helped put Syracuse on the map as a world-class destination for live jazz, and we're grateful to be a part of it.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to see Hejira: Celebrating Joni Mitchell at Big Bear Lodge - Andres Institute of Art. We were thrilled to welcome a sold-out, full-house crowd, and you made the evening truly unforgettable.

Hejira delivered an absolutely phenomenal performance, bringing Joni Mitchell's timeless music to life with incredible musicianship and heartfelt passion. It was an honor to host such a talented group on the Dream Trax Stage.

On percussion, Marc Cecil brings color, groove, and a remarkable sense of musical texture to the stage.

With a career spanning a wide range of styles, Marc has performed at premier venues and spent 17 years as a member of King Salsa, the UK’s leading 12-piece salsa band. His extensive theatre work includes productions such as Blood Brothers, Billy Elliot, Saturday Night Fever, and Million Dollar Quartet.

In the jazz world, he has worked alongside many of the UK’s most respected musicians, building a reputation for versatility and musicality.

Marc’s dynamic playing and use of sonic color are an essential part of the Hejira: Celebrating Joni Mitchell sound.

🥁 Meet the Hejira Band: Rick Finlay

On drums, Rick Finlay brings precision, experience, and a deep feel for live performance.

Rick’s career has kept him in constant demand, balancing work across London’s West End, jazz performance, and education. He held the drum chair for Blood Brothers for over two decades, and has also performed in productions such as Little Shop of Horrors and Chess.

As a freelance musician, he has appeared on major television shows including Parkinson, Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, and The Late Show. He also hosts the long-running Just East Jazz Club in North London, where he has played alongside many of the UK’s leading jazz artists.

Now, he brings that experience and rhythmic foundation to Hejira: Celebrating Joni Mitchell.

🎸 Meet the Hejira Band: Dave Jones

On electric bass, Dave Jones brings exceptional musicianship and depth to the rhythm section.

Widely regarded as one of the UK’s finest bass players, Dave’s career has seen him perform with an impressive range of artists, including John Etheridge, Bill Bruford, the BBC Big Band, Jacqui Dankworth, Willard White, and Scott Hamilton.

As a bandleader, arranger, and composer, he leads the acclaimed Dave Jones Nonet, featuring some of the UK’s top jazz musicians. Alongside his performing career, Dave is deeply involved in jazz education, teaching at Richmond Jazz School and leading courses both in the UK and internationally.

Now, he brings that experience and musicality to Hejira: Celebrating Joni Mitchell.
