The kids and I made my husband a four-course meal for his birthday dinner and the surprise star was a last-minute savory pear soup!

3 pears, diced
Leftover bacon grease
6 oz. cheddar cheese
1 cup half and half
16 oz. chicken broth
1/4 cup sage (my husband is obsessed)
Salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder (to taste)
1. Toss the diced pears in the bacon grease on a sheet pan.
2. Bake for 25 minutes on 375°F.
3. Melt the cheese in some of the half and half and broth.
4. Transfer all ingredients to a blender.
5. Blend and place in a pot.
6. Keep on low, stirring occasionally, until ready to serve.
