Where are custom AI agents already paying off in the enterprise?

Six places to look:

🎧 Customer support: routine inquiries and returns handled, complex cases escalated to humans

πŸ’» Software development: PR reviews, test generation, and documentation

πŸ”Ž Data & research: faster access to internal and external information for analysts

πŸ“‘ Operations monitoring: anomalies caught early, automated responses triggered

✍️ Content intelligence: drafting and editing at scale, with brand voice and accuracy intact

βš–οΈ Compliance & regulatory: documents and transactions checked against rules, exceptions flagged for review

The pattern across all six? The agents that succeed are scoped narrowly from day one. A support agent and a compliance agent need different integrations and different success metrics, so one template for everything doesn't work.

"Should we build our own AI agent or buy one?" is the wrong first question.

Ask this instead: is the job the same at your company as at your competitor's?

πŸ’° Buy if it is. Standard support deflection, meeting notes, basic email drafting. You get value in weeks and carry no maintenance.

πŸ› οΈ Build if the job depends on your data, your rules, or systems no vendor integrates with. If your process is part of why customers choose you, don't hand it to a generic tool.

🀝 Partner if you have the use case but not the team. The skills gap is rarely prompt writing. It's evaluation, integration, data cleanup, and governance.

A practical middle path is to buy for the common 70% and build for the 30% that's specific to you.

Your AI agent will eventually get something wrong. Plan for it.

Guardrails work best as layered defense: no single check is enough, but several specialized ones together make an agent much more resilient.

Here are the layers you should put in place:

πŸ›‘οΈ Relevance classifier: flags off-topic requests
πŸ›‘οΈ Safety classifier: catches jailbreaks and prompt injection
πŸ›‘οΈ PII filter: stops personal data leaking in outputs
πŸ›‘οΈ Moderation: filters harmful or abusive content
πŸ›‘οΈ Rules-based checks: blocklists, length limits, regex
πŸ›‘οΈ Tool safeguards: rate each tool low, medium, or high risk based on write access, reversibility, and financial impact

And two situations where a human should step in:

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ’» Failure thresholds: the agent has retried or misunderstood too many times
πŸ‘©β€πŸ’» High-risk actions: cancelling orders, large refunds, payments, anything hard to undo

πŸ› οΈ How to build them: start with data privacy and content safety, add more as real edge cases show up, and keep tuning for both security and user experience.

Human oversight isn't a sign the agent failed. It's how you learn what to trust it with next.

What's the one action you'd never let an AI agent take without approval?

Every AI agent, no matter how sophisticated, is built from just three things:

1️⃣ Model – the LLM doing the reasoning
2️⃣ Tools – the functions and APIs it can call
3️⃣ Instructions – explicit guidance on how it should behave

Here's what each one mean:

Model: Prototype with the most capable model for every step to set a performance baseline. Then swap in smaller, cheaper models wherever the results still hold up. Use a small model for intent classification and a stronger one for a decision like approving a refund.

Tools: There are three kinds: data tools (retrieve context), action tools (update records, send messages), and orchestration tools (other agents used as tools). For legacy systems with no API, computer-use models can operate the UI like a human.

Instructions: Turn your existing SOPs and help-center articles into step-by-step routines. Make each step a specific action, and write in the edge cases (what if the customer doesn't have an order number?).

Your agent is only as good as the documentation behind it.

Which of the three is your team struggling with most?

Most support teams don't choose their triage process β€” they inherit it. It grows with the ticket queue until one day nobody remembers deciding to work this way.

There are 3 levels of triage maturity:

🧍 Manual β€” a person reviews and assigns every ticket by hand
βš™οΈ Semi-automated β€” rules sort tickets, a human makes the final call
πŸ€– Fully automated β€” AI routes based on context, urgency, and agent capacity

Each one works fine... until it doesn't. The average company handles 578 support tickets a day, and 12% of customers expect a reply within 15 minutes.

Manual and semi-automated systems tend to hold up right until that volume hits β€” and by then, SLA breaches and frustrated customers are already showing up in your CSAT scores.

The wrong question when buying an AI ticketing system: "What % of email can it automate?"

The right question: "What is the AI allowed to do without asking?"

Automation rate looks great in a demo. It means nothing if the AI is approving refunds, replying to legal complaints, or replacing itself when a thread it half-understood.

Most teams treat email routing as a feature. It's actually a five-layer pipeline: ingestion, parsing, classification, queue assignment, and fallback.

Skip the fifth layer and here's what happens - low-confidence AI classifications get forced into normal queues.

The ticket looks routed. It's actually sitting with the wrong team, under the wrong SLA, and nobody knows a human should have reviewed it.

Rules-based routing (regex + keyword matching) breaks down for three predictable reasons: mixed tenant traffic, silent misroutes, and rules that multiply into chaos at volume.

The fix isn't more rules - it's separating "classify" from "decide." Let AI recommend, let your system enforce.

5 AI tools = 5 contracts, 5 renewals, 5 invoices, 5 security reviews. 😡

There's a simpler way. Custom AI Agents by Kommunicate puts support, IT, HR, sales, and ops on one platform, under one contract, with one team that owns it.

40% of enterprise AI projects may be cancelled by 2027.

Not because the tech failed. Because governance never kept pace.

Before you deploy your next AI agent, can your exec team answer these 5 questions? (swipe β†’)

The gap isn't capability. It's authority β€” knowing who can act, how fast, and on what evidence.

Which question would your organization struggle to answer? πŸ‘‡

Evaluating a voice AI vendor for healthcare, finance, or any regulated industry?

Don't just ask for their SOC 2 badge. Ask this:

πŸ”Ή Will you sign a BAA β€” and does it cover every pricing tier, or just enterprise?

πŸ”Ή Is redaction applied to stored transcripts, or only to what the agent says out loud?

πŸ”Ή What happens if a customer volunteers a card number before the agent asks?

πŸ”Ή Does your breach notification process meet GDPR's 72-hour window?

Save this before your next vendor call.
