Happy to have gotten to photograph the Sandhill Cranes that visit Somerset Coutbybfor a fourth-year in-a-row.
Sandhill Cranes are said to be the oldest living bird species in the world; scientist have dated fossils of them dating from ten-million years old.
Every winter you can catch Atlantic Harbor seals at Sandy Hook when the conditions are just right.
One of the two juvenile Wood Storks that visited Monmouth County , NJ this early winter. They were rather far from where they should be this time of year in Northern South America.
Blessed to have spotted this Eastern Screech-Owl in New Jersey woods today. Eastern Screech’s come in two different morphs, red and gray. This one is a red morph and has orange-red plumage. You might’ve heard a screech too at night; they do not hoot but sound more like a horse neighing. Keep your peepers open in the woods.
A two-fer. It’s not everyday you can get two birds in one frame. A Merlin (a member of the falcon family) with its prey.

Baby Killdeer in Middlesex County, NJ.
I spotted this and three of its sibling baby killdeers along the Bayshore Coast. The parents quickly became distressed at my presence and I limited my time to under 5-mins photographing them.

This curious Common Raven landed on top of a telephone pole at our property in Monmouth County, NJ. Raven population here in NJ and on the East Coast of USA was on the decline and used to be considered a rare sighting. However, their presence has increased.
“Winter Yawn”
A immature male Snowy Owl takes a much needed rest on top of a lamppost. Their closest relative is the Hreat Horned Owl. Snowy Owls migrate all the way from Arctic Tundra. The ones that migrate down to here in NJ and further south are usually immature (first winter) and have a high mortality rate. It is very important to always respect wildlife from respectable distance.

The report is in line with a well-established trend of recovery in the bald eagle population nationally, which was critically endangered in the 1970s and 1980s because of habitat destruction and the widespread use of DDT
