Today’s the day! It’s officially , an annual celebration of giving to our community’s many hardworking, worthy nonprofits. My goal is to raise $1500 this year.

WDNA 88.9 FM is a community radio station that represents the culture and community of South Florida on the airwaves. When you tune in to WDNA, you are guaranteed to hear local voices like mine. I first got my start in radio as a college DJ, first at WTUL 91.5 FM in New Orleans, and then as an undergraduate and law student at WVUM 90.5 FM at the University of Miami. I started volunteering at WDNA about a decade ago, helping with on-air pitching during The Sunday Time Warp created by Mark Hayes and occasionally subbing as host. When Mark moved away in 2017, I took the helm of The Sunday Time Warp and have been hosting weekly as DJ Swanky ever since. Last year, I was elected to join the Board of Trustees of WDNA. I am dedicated to ensuring the future of community radio in Miami, particularly since the tragic loss of our long time general manager, Maggie Pelleya, earlier this year.

I'm proud to be a listener and supporter of my community radio station. It's a rare gift to have this type of station anywhere in 2023, especially in South Florida. Thank you for your support on Give Miami Day and year round!

It is with a heavy heart that we share this news.

On May 9th, 2023, this world lost an incredible powerhouse of a human being – Maggie Pelleyá.

Maggie was WDNA RADIO's general manager for over thirty years, not counting the years she volunteered. She worked tirelessly and gracefully to ensure that WDNA, Community Radio, and independent music grew in South Florida. She impacted countless artists, musicians, listeners, students, staff, hosts, and music lovers.

Maggie’s husband, Wifredo Fernandez, and her sons Wifredo Jr. and Diego Fernandez ask in lieu of flowers, that you please make a gift to WDNA in her honor.
