Artist Spotlight 🔦 David Fernandez 🎻🎤 Violinist/Vocalist

Born in Santiago de Cuba, David Fernandez began studying violin at just eight years old and made his debut with the Santiago Symphony Orchestra a year later. By eleven, he had won his first international competition in Havana, performing alongside talented artists from around the world.

After immigrating to Miami at thirteen, David attended South Miami Middle School before earning a full scholarship to the prestigious New World School of the Arts. By sixteen, he had joined the Miami Symphony Orchestra as a soloist, performing regularly in concert halls and special events.

In 2020, he earned his bachelor’s degree and began training in voice and opera as a bass-baritone, expanding his range as both a vocalist and instrumentalist. Today, David performs across South Florida—from recording studios to concert halls.

David just released his newest single “Feelings,” available to stream on all platforms. Keep an eye out for his music video dropping soon!

Looking back on one of our favorite moments from last month’s concert.

David Fernandez () stepped forward for a solo performance of Bad Things, seamlessly weaving live violin with his vocals in a moment that completely captured the audience. Highlighting Sebastian Lannes () on lead guitar and Julian Rauh () on bass.

We also want to congratulate David on the release of his newest single “Feelings,” now available on all streaming platforms. It’s exciting to see his work continue to grow beyond the stage and into this next chapter as a recording artist.

Grateful for the artists, the music, and everyone who continues to support The Birds of Paradise as we keep building, together.

Alexander Zenoz & The Birds of Paradise are taking over the Gray Box Theater on Saturday, January 10th. Doors opening at 7:30 PM, with the show starting at 8:00 PM.

Expect a high-energy live band mixing rock favorites with select original songs — loud, fun, and built for a great night out.

This is about showing up, letting go, and sharing a room with good music and good people. Sometimes that’s the most disobedient thing of all.

Artist Spotlight 🔦 Daniel Perkins 🎹 Pianist

Daniel Perkins () is a pianist for The Birds of Paradise, bringing nuance, clarity, and musical depth to the band’s sound with a refined touch and expressive presence at the keys.

Based in the Miami–Fort Lauderdale area, Daniel is currently pursuing his Master’s degree in Keyboard Performance at the Frost School of Music. He began studying piano at the age of five and has since developed a strong foundation rooted in both technical excellence and musical storytelling.

In 2018, Daniel won first place at the Lancaster International Piano Competition, performing with orchestra as part of the festival. Since then, he has performed extensively across a wide range of settings, collaborating with singers, instrumentalists, and chamber ensembles in diverse performance contexts.

Alongside performing, Daniel is deeply committed to teaching piano to students of all ages, emphasizing musical growth, expression, and individualized development. His artistry, versatility, and thoughtful musicianship make him a vital voice within The Birds of Paradise and a pianist audiences quickly take notice of.

Will Crandell () is the drummer for The Birds of Paradise, driving the band with energy, precision, and an instinctive musicality that shapes every performance.

Based in Miami, Will is known for his versatility and sensitivity behind the kit. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Jazz Performance from Michigan State University, studying under renowned drummer Randy Gelispie, and has honed a style that seamlessly blends technical mastery with expressive groove.

An active performer throughout South Florida, Will plays in a wide range of musical settings, bringing depth, creativity, and responsiveness to every stage.

His ability to adapt across genres—from jazz and rock to contemporary fusion—makes him an essential force in The Birds of Paradise and a standout musician to watch.
