A roseate spoonbill cruising the skies alongside a group of black vultures.

Orlando Wetlands is one of Florida's most underrated wildlife photography destinations.

Covering more than 1,600 acres near Christmas, Florida, it draws hundreds of bird species year-round, including great blue herons, anhingas, sandhill cranes, and, when you're lucky, roseate spoonbills.

Rufous-tailed hummingbird, Costa Rica

Costa Rica is home to more than 50 species of hummingbird, and this one is among the most striking, with an iridescent green body and a namesake rufous tail that catches the light as it moves flower to flower.

This image was published in The Guardian newspaper

The species is nocturnal and not venomous. It relies on vivid coloration and bulging red eyes to startle predators long enough to escape. Native to the rainforests of Central America, it is one of the most photographed amphibians in the world, and one of the hardest to find in the wild.

Costa Rica covers just 0.03 percent of Earth's landmass. It harbors nearly 5 percent of all species estimated to exist on the planet, making it one of the most biodiverse countries on Earth.
