Happy Friday! These flowery Dittos are inspired by the Japanese artist, Takashi Murakami 🌸 I have been a fan of Murakami-san’s work for a long time. He is known for ignoring concepts of “high” and “low” art, which is often found in the Western art world and distinguishes between “fine” and “commercial” artwork. Like Murakami-san, I am also uninterested in this distinction. For me, fan artwork simply puts a smile on my face and other people’s faces, and I am completely satisfied as an artist to spread joy through beloved characters hand-painted on canvas as beautifully as I possibly can. Murakami-san founded the “super flat” art movement, which is based on 2D imagery in Japanese art history, such as anime and manga as well as traditional Ukiyo-e prints. I hope you enjoy this week’s Takashi Murakami-inspired Ditto painting!!

It was seriously such a joy to attend Florida Supercon this weekend!!!! This was my first convention in a long time and I was truly so happy to meet so many amazing, kind, accepting people. This community is amazing 🥹 I am also so so so grateful to everyone who bought a painting this weekend!!!!!!!!!! So overjoyed to see so many Dittos going to loving homes 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕

New abstract ditto painting! 🖼️🎨 this lil guy is made by layering LOTS of acrylic paint (and some nail polish). it’s different from the smooth, polished work I usually make and was kind of an experiment, but I’m happy with the result! I love his little face

Taking a break from painting Ditto to make a cute wabi sabi Cubone 🦴

This painting is inspired by the Japanese concept of "wabi sabi," which is about finding about the beauty in imperfection. Wabi sabi is often associated with the art of "kintsugi," or repairing broken pottery through the use of gold to make the pot even more beautiful. I was inspired by the cracks in Cubone's mask and decided to mend the breaks with gold in this painting. This painting helps me remember that even when you feel broken by the hardships of life, your struggles are what make you a more understanding, humble, and resilient person.
