Cultural Awareness for Professionals in Education

Cultural Awareness for Professionals in Education This is an advocacy campaign created to promote cultural awareness for professionals in education in an effort to reduce school inequality. school system.

There has been a growing phenomenon of race disproportionality in the U.S. Due to this, the rate of minorities suspended and expelled from school is much higher than that of the rate of their White counterparts. In a study done by Skiba and colleagues in 2011, it was discovered that Black and Latino students were significantly more likely to receive exclusionary discipline (suspension/expulsion) w

hen compared to their White classmates. As a result of this, C.A.P.E. serves to provide resources to promote cultural awareness to professionals in the school system. For example, providing educators with information about cultural differences in communication styles (verbal/nonverbal cues), and manner of expressions are a couple of the priorities of C.A.P.E. Therefore, this page functions as means to advocate for the equal educational experience of all students.
