Fun fact!

Today In Star Wars History… I was there… were you?

On May 03, 1999 — at the stroke of midnight Phantom Menace toys officially hit shelves as launched the first major collection for the new prequel era. For many fans, this was the first time in years that Star Wars toy aisles felt massive again—packed with Jedi, Sith, droids, vehicles, and creatures from a brand-new galaxy adventure.

Collectors still remember the excitement of finding figures like , , , and young on cardbacks featuring the now-iconic red lightsaber eye artwork.

This launch helped ignite one of the biggest Star Wars merchandise booms since the original Kenner era. Midnight openings, packed toy aisles, and instant sellouts became common as fans prepared for the film’s release later that month.

For many collectors, Episode I toys were more than merchandise—they were the moment Star Wars returned to store shelves in a huge way.
