Have you ever been to a show at 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐞𝐬𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐞? If not… why not?! This place is AWESOME.
Our buddy Richard Cook gave us the full backstage tour and there’s WAY more going on behind those curtains than most of us realize.
We sit in the audience, eat our popcorn, clap at the end and head home.
Meanwhile backstage there’s an entire army of volunteers building sets, organizing props, putting together costumes, rehearsing lines, running lights and sound and giving us the shoe of a lifetime.
We got to see everything: the dressing rooms, the prop rooms, the costume closets, the rehearsal spaces, the scene shop where they build those sets from scratch.
Most people in Mesquite have no idea how much talent is sitting right here in our own backyard.
This building has been part of Mesquite since the 1940s and the theatre continues upgrading and expanding. They’ve got some really cool things happening with the 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐬 youth program helping kids get involved in theater and the arts.
And yes… before you ask… They’ve got some really fun shows coming up too: 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐑𝐨𝐜𝐤, 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐞… and more.
They’re also hoping to expand the theater someday, which would be incredible for our community.
The best part about all this? This place survives because local people support it.
Volunteers. Donations. People buying tickets. People showing up to support.
So if you’ve ever thought: “I should really go check that place out someday…”
𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞'𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧.
Go see a show. Volunteer. Work the Star Bar. Help build sets. Eat popcorn. Support local artists. Because places like this make our town special.

And huge thanks to Richard for letting us wander around backstage like a bunch of curious raccoons.
