Contemporary Humanitarian Artists Association - CHAA

Contemporary Humanitarian Artists Association - CHAA CHAA's goal is to promote creativity and community for a small group of professional artists working in Merced, CA. Perez, Eddie O. Rodriguez, Ruben A.

We meet once a month to discuss art, critique works in progress and to support each other in our journey to create and exhibit together. The Contemporary Humanitarian Artists Association (CHAA) formed in 1985 in an effort to build creativity and community for artists living and working in the region around Merced, CA. While the members have changed over the year, the goals of the collective remain

constant. We come together with a shared philosophy - that creativity, contemplation, and exploration are key to the human spirit. Together we encourage that humanitarian endeavor, bringing greater awareness and appreciation of the importance of the visual arts to our existence, to our community and to society as a whole. CHAA members are committed to exploring the many themes that define art. We meet once a month to discuss art philosophies, to share techniques and critiques, and to support each other in our creative journey. The majority of the members are professionals with BA to MA degrees in Art and are art educators at the MAC, High School, Merced College, or UCM, however several are retired now after decades of service. Current Members: Frank Ayala, Cheryl Barnett, Abel Corchado, Janine Echabarne, Lisa Gilliland-Viney, Richard Gomez, Kate Jackson, Charles A. Sanchez, Sue Thompson, and Oscar Torres.
