Come From Away officially opened at Playhouse Merced last night, and our first audience gave the cast and crew an incredible welcome. From the laughter and tears to the standing ovation, opening night was everything we hoped it would be.

But this production's run has just begun! There are two more chances this weekend to experience this extraordinary show.

It's opening night for Come From Away!

Based on the true story of thousands of strangers from around the world who suddenly find themselves stranded in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland after the 9/11. As the locals find ways to welcome and house the travelers that have doubled their population over night, they discover a warmth and humanity in their suddenly global community.

Tomorrow night!!!!!

Based on a true story, Come From Away shines the spotlight on the small, isolated town of Gander, Newfoundland, which saw it's population nearly double in size when 38 commercial airplanes carrying 7,000 passengers were diverted to its airport during the events of 9/11.

Playhouse Merced, in collaboration with Phoenix Creative Collective, is proud to open it's 2026-27 season with this powerful and uplifting production that depicts how the locals opened up their town and pooled their resources to feed and house the visitors from all over the world.

Come From Away opens this Friday (8/14) and runs for the next three weekends. Tickets can be purchased at playhousemerced.com
