These church doodles help me remember the lesson I was taught each Sunday. I've done professional art of one type or another most of my adult life with work including advertisements, clothing, children’s story books, conceptual design, digital art, photo work, and of course, cartooning. Lots of folks keep written notes of their church experiences, but with my visual mind, I found that "doodling" m

y notes helped me recall the lesson I was taught each Sunday much better than words ever could. A few years ago, a friend of mine suggested that I formalize them into a weekly cartoon so they could be shared with others and so this strip was born. Church Doodles by Steve Chavez follows two citizens of heaven as they make observations of life on earth, ask real questions, make mistakes, and explore biblical teachings. Just like us, they experience moments of happiness, curiosity, anger, pride, and more, often doing something many Christians wish they could do – directly ask God their questions and receive answers. Acting as our eyes and mouth, these two allow readers to learn Christian morals and lessons without having them shoved down our throats. I think of the strip as "edutainment," a term coined by Walt Disney. Readers learn as they are entertained and when people enjoy what they're studying, they're much more likely to remember it. In many opinions, it’s the perfect way to learn!
