Kathleen Alexander is a native of Northern California. She spent 12 years in Maui, Hawaii. In March 2022, she and her family returned to the Mendocino Coast, where she is focusing her attentions on new subject matter - a new series of abalone shell still life, as well as original watercolors of the Brown Pelican. This piece is titled “Cruizing” and is 60” x 24” framed original watercolor with mixed media. The work is mounted on a gesso-ed wood panel with a heavy gel-gloss medium (acrylic) and then sealed with a Gamblin cold wax medium.

After graduating from San Francisco State University with a degree in biochemistry and working in that field for several years, Kathleen decided to focus on her passion for painting in watercolor. She studies with photorealist painter James Torlakson in the early 1990s, then began teaching watercolor workshops in 2006 and participated in fine art festivals from 2006 - 2016. Kathleen is a signature member of Watercolor West, the Northwest Watercolor Society, and the National Watercolor Society. Her watercolor paintings have been accepted into and won awards in juried exhibitions across the United States.

Last weekend of the Kristin Coddington-Gordon ANIMAL exhibit. Get on down here!

This exhibit of animals - carved by hand from clay, fired in the raku kiln at the mendocinoartcenter, and presented for your consideration - have been embedded in their natural habitat in the children’s book ANIMAL: An ABC Animal Book of Conservation. The book is an urgent plea for humans to use their large brains and opposable thumbs to become more responsible citizens of the earth.
