A quilt trail is a relatively new sightseeing destination, begun in 2001 in the US but inspired by the time-honored tradition of quilting. Quilt trails consist of quilt patterns hand painted onto a wooden surface that can be found hanging on barns, homes, businesses, community buildings and historical structures. A series of quilt block locations result in a quilt trail that people can drive to get a close view of each block and, of course take a picture! As a member of Arkansas Quilt Trails Inc., Crittenden County Quilt Trail’s mission includes preserving local and regional history which is done by including a story with each quilt block. This is the Crittenden County Quilt Trail Page. You can find other Arkansas Quilt Trail information at

Crittenden County has just begun developing a quilt trail. Volunteer county coordinator Sherry Lovelady of Marion has the first one painted and hung. She shares the story behind it. Nanny’s Lone Star was made in memory of my grandmother Ruie Harmon who we lost to Covid in November of 2020. Blue was her favorite color. I come from a long line of quilters in my family. I remember my great-grandmothers quilt frame hanging from her ceiling in her living room. When I was a senior in high school my family made me a quilt as a graduation present all of my great aunts embroidered blocks for the quilt my mother and my grandmother pieced the quilt together and my great-grandmother hand quilted it for me and she was 93 years old. Nanny’s Lonestar is 4ft x 4ft barn quilt and Is mounted on my mothers art studio at 239 Mound City Rd, in Marion AR.
