At Rotary Park, Richard Ibghy & Marilou Lemmens present “Community Toolshed for the Birds,” a different type of tactile community library designed around the ways birds share knowledge, adapt, and interact with their environments.

Kärt Ojavee’s “Between Blossom and Core,” created for the inaugural Triennial, invites visitors to experience the extracted scents of local apple blossoms harvested from Medina’s Roberts Farm.

Discover artworks that engage taste, smell, sound, touch, and sight across Medina this summer.

Join Richard Ibghy & Marilou Lemmens for an artist talk and birdwatching session in collaboration with Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge and the New York State Bluebird Society (NYSBS.org) at Rotary Park on Sunday, June 7 at 12PM.

Beginning in front of their installation, “Community Toolshed for the Birds”, in Rotary Park, the artists will discuss their research into how birds use tools and transmit knowledge across generations—challenging human-centered ideas of intelligence. Afterwards, participants are invited to join the artists and local experts for guided birdwatching in nearby habitats.

Rotary Park, 507 Main Street

James Beckett is a research-based artist whose work explores overlooked histories of industrial development and the built environment.

Commissioned for the Triennial, Beckett’s “A Good Wall” (2026) emerges from his Fieldwork Residency in Medina and his research into the village’s sandstone and architectural histories.

This monumental installation on the front lawn of the Historic Medina High School is built around salvaged sandstone—reclaimed from former schools and civic buildings. Nestled between two layers of limestone, the structure is built to collapse, as limestone’s natural acids slowly leach into the softer stone.

This slow transformation points to Medina’s own arch: a place built on industries of extraction and transportation, left to discover what endures.

Developed in collaboration with Nicholas Bruscia, Tim Noble, and students at the Architecture and Planning - University at Buffalo, with contributions from Jon Penvose of the University of Pennsylvania and Oliver Wilston of University College London, Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment.

Taking the environment as a site of artistic inquiry, “All That Sustains Us” brings together artists engaging industrial and ecological systems.

At the Historic Medina High School, Alice Bucknell, Terike Haapoja, Deirdre O’Mahony, and Kärt Ojavee explore interdependent relationships between human and non-human life.
