The Collier Gallery at CTP (Collaborative Theatre Project) is thrilled to announce our new exhibition featuring paintings by Robert Koch. ☺️
After many years of not pursuing any art at all, Robert decided to start painting again using found photographs as a starting point. The first paintings that he created were recognizable based on the photos that he was referencing. Over time, however, Robert began to stray further and further away from the original compositions of the photos that he was using. People began turning into animals, as well as people and actions morphing together. Colors, backgrounds, clothing, and locations also began to transform. As he was painting, his subjects and compositions began to depend less on what he was doing under his control and more on what shapes, patterns, and colors were appearing in front of him. More than anything, what is most important to Robert now is the relationships and interactions between the humans and creatures in his paintings. His goal is not to be precise in representation, but rather, to allow his viewers to decide for themselves what they are looking at, hopefully eliciting a response of humor, curiosity, or empathy.
Robert Koch’s exhibition will take place from Thursday, March 20 to Sunday, April 13 with an Opening Reception on Sunday, March 23, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. For more information, please visit www.ctpmedford.org.
