Update on "Carousel"
As some of you may be aware, the MCP board of directors has reluctantly had to cancel our July 2021 production of "Carousel." We are planning for another show for July and will make more information available as soon as possible.

In the meantime, we are in search of "a few good men and women" as new members. Actors, of course, but also folks who are interested in the McLean community and able to help us with publicity, set building, stage management, or fund-raising. If you are interested in becoming a member or volunteering, please send a note to our webmaster ([email protected]) or a message to the page.

Robert Alden, Washington Post news and design editor, dies at 87

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of Robert Alden. We are all grateful for his commitment to the McLean community, and will always feel honored to perform in the theater that is named for him.

Our deepest sympathies to his family, friends and the entire McLean community. We certainly all stand on the shoulders of this giant.

He was president of the National Press Club and an early advocate for the admission of women to full membership.

ANOTHER POSTPONEMENT FOR "CAROUSEL"

To July 2021. More details will be posted as arrangements are finalized.

03/16/2020

The McLean Community Center is closed until (at least) mid April. The pandemic will surely not be over by then, and, in an "abundance of caution" MCP has reluctantly decided to cancel Carousel for this year.

Seussical Opens This Friday!

This charming musical by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty brings to life many of the most beloved characters in the Dr. Seuss stories, including the Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Maizie La Bird, the Grinch, JoJo and the Whos. The Cat narrates the story – pulled from more than a dozen Dr. Seuss books – of Horton’s adventures while protecting the Whos. The characters travel everywhere from the Jungle of Nool to Whoville, the Circus McGurkus, and other far-off destinations. The music embraces many styles, including show tunes, rock ballads, ragtime, pop, Latin, and swing. The themes of bravery, loyalty, love, and the power of imagination make this musical appealing to theater-goers of all ages. Don’t miss this magical musical extravaganza! "Seussical is a show meant to engage young audiences and adults. 'Just 'open your mind,' as one of the song lyrics suggests." -- Connection Preview Article by David Siegel. Directed by Shelly Horn; produced by Bunny Bonnes and Jerry Gideon. Visit MCP's website (www.McLeanPlayers.org) for tickets.

A Fund-Raiser for "Seussical"!
About the Fundraiser
As many of you know, McLean Community Players (MCP) had a hard time over the past two years when our home theater, the Alden at the McLean Community Center, was closed for renovation. We still had bills to pay, did manage to have three shows at various locations, but alas it was not the Alden, and our patrons did not follow us to the new locations. This has left us with barely enough to put on the quality musicals the community has come to expect from MCP. To ensure success and to allow us to at least break even, MCP needs at least $5,000 in donations to make it over the hump and to allow us to have a 2020 season. Consider yourself a patron of the arts! I will list all donations in the playbill, and everyone over $250 as "executive producers." No gift is too small, and all gifts are tax deductible. The quick link to the MCP donation page is:

To be sure of recognition, please send me a quick email at [email protected] .
Thank you,
Jerry Gideon President, MCP and Producer of Seussical
