A friend and collector just sent me these photos of my original paintings in her beautiful home! She has some of my favorites, including the beach scene inspired by Little Women and the original of the lemons which is probably my best selling print. I love to see where my work finds a home so if you have any similar photos you’d like to send, I always enjoy it!

Thank you so much for sharing Lindsey Bullen!

Seeing the Whistler exhibit while in London was a dream. There was so much beauty to behold that I could hardly take it all in. Beyond marveling at his work, I also enjoyed learning more about his story, his practices and his artistic philosophies. The craziest part was that I had done two Whistler master studies before the trip to test out my new paint setup, not realizing that I would soon see both of them in person! So cool.

Seeing the portrait of Lady Agnew by Sargent at the Scottish National Gallery was a highlight of our trip. By attempting master studies and struggling big time (her head is waaaay too big in my painted study and the shadows in her dress far too dark 🫠), I’m again in awe of Sargent’s effortless genius. Also my husband confessed that Lady Agnew was quite hot and honestly, yep.

I’m still processing our trip to Scotland. I’ve always felt something in my soul calling me there and now I know why. It’s magical and magestic! I’m full up with inspiration and already talking about when and how to go back.

I plan to do larger paintings based on what I experienced in Scotland but I’ve discovered that creating these scrapbook travel journals with memories and sketches from my time abroad is a helpful place to start. I still have several pages to go but I’m loving the opportunity relive the magic again ✨.

More painting trip prep. Now I’m trying out a new travel palette for watercolors and gouache. I’m liking it! One can never have too many travel palettes (I do. It’s fine🙈).

I’m testing out various papers and palettes for an upcoming painting trip by doing master studies of Sorolla and Whistler. Headed to a seaside location 🙌🏼 👀

Today was meh. I worked in my studio for the first time in weeks and felt like it might as well have been my first time painting ever. Nothing I did was working and most every attempt was scrapped or wiped clean. Sharing this because I want to normalize the “off days”. I think one of the best lessons I’ve learned as an artist is that sometimes we make crap. However, the most precious commodity - our time - is never wasted when we are engaging in creation. I heard once that we should think of our artistic failures not as trash but as compost, an essential nourishment to the soil from which all that we will create blooms forth. And so we try again tomorrow.
