Kinetic Sculpture Race was amazing!
In short, here's how it all went down:
Day 1: We finished welding the machine and strapped on our extravagant art hours before the race started. We were the first to break down and never made it off the plaza, so we won The Golden Dinosaur! 😂 We decided to tow our machine to Halverson Park while a handful of us continued to ride the race route (except through the dunes).
Day 2: We were first in line to enter Humboldt Bay for the float test. Thanks to our super sized pontoons, we're were able to fit all 10 of our crewmates aboard the SS Malice! After we passed our float test, four of us decided to take some of the art on the next segment of the race. We strapped the Cheshire Cat, Door Mouse, and a skull to White Rabbit, (M)Alice, and Queen of Hearts bikes, respectively. We made a snack stop on Cannibal Island Road so the White Rabbit could nibble on a chocolate bunny and swiftly made our way to the Crab Park Campout. At camp, we met up with the Mad Hatter and March Hare where more carnivorous cannibalism occurred. White Rabbit and March Hare devoured smoked rabbit at our evening feast! For our night time ritual, we set a Kinetic Chicken / Burning Man hybrid effigy on fire (Thank you Scott Cocking).
Day 3: While three of us rode to Fernbridge, the machine was towed to Ferndale Fairgrounds. From there, White Rabbit and (M)Alice walked the Cheshire Cat and Door Mouse to the Eel River where they swam across for a sweet slice of summertime Glory. After that, we rode to the fairgrounds, switched to our machine, and very gently rode across the finish line.
Bottom line: We made it! We did it! I'm so hooked! Stay tuned for more!
